Gliding his hand down my body, he squeezes my ass and pulls me against him. “Yeah, can’t wait to see this dress you keep going on about but won’t let me see.”

“I’m gonna blow you away, caveman.”

“You already do.” His eyes soften with that smile I love. It doesn’t always reach his lips, but that’s okay. Those eyes… that look… it’s just for me, and I will never take that for granted.

This man is gone for me, and my chest zings with these happy little bursts that make me want to giggle.

We’re gonna have to tell my parents about this soon, but I don’t want to pop the bubble. It’s too good. Too safe. Too perfect.

Which means everything’s about to implode.

If life has taught me anything, it’s that.

Gripping the back of Carson’s neck, I hold him a little tighter, ignoring the alarm beeping on my phone.

He has to go, but I don’t want to let him.

Things can’t implode. My life is finally getting good again.

But it can’t stay that way.

You’re falling in love with this man, and you have to tell your parents about it.

“I gotta go.” Carson tugs away from me.

“I know.” I force myself to nod and push him back a step. “I’ll see you tonight.”

“Isn’t your roommate back tonight?”

“No, she doesn’t get back until Sunday. Which means we can be naked together all night and all morning… before we have to get ready for the donors’ dinner.”

“It’s not like we can go together or hang out while we’re there. I have to put on a smile for the rich assholes who support our team.”

“Yeah, but I’ll be floating around in the background, giving you a little eye candy while you wait for it to end. Then you can take me back to my dorm and strip me naked all over again.”

He groans, lurching toward me and kissing me until I can’t breathe.

His alarm starts beeping—our backup alarm—and I force him away again.

“You really have to go.” I smile at him. “Play your heart out and score me that touchdown, ’kay? If you do, you’ll definitely get lucky tonight,” I tease him.

He growls, kissing me hard one last time before walking away.

I watch him go, my insides buzzing with anticipation, while trying to ignore the gnawing trepidation that’s determined to take me out.

This can’t be ruined.

It won’t be.

There will be no imploding.

We just have to figure out a safe and happy way to gently let my dad know that I’m dating one of his football players… and probably the one he wants me to stay away from the most.

CHAPTER40

CARSON

The crowd is insane, the noise thunderous as we run onto the field. I never wave or do any of that shit. I want to stay focused on the game. But today I find myself looking up into the stands. Really looking, not just glancing.
