“What a great game,” I said as I settled back into my chair.

“I would have been more comfortable if we had more of a lead.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” I bumped her shoulder with mine, drawing a smile. “But seriously, Jeremy was amazing. He’s really good. You know that, right?”

“I know. He really loves baseball. Playing, watching, analyzing. All of it. I’m amazed at all the stats he has in his head. Sometimes when he’s talking to Dale, it’s like they’re speaking another language.”

I looked over my shoulder to say something to Dale, but he was nodding his head as a man talked to him. My brother handles fans very well and from the enthusiastic look on the man’s face and his over-exaggerated gestures, I’d bet a year’s salary that’s exactly what he is.

“Does that still happen a lot?” I asked Karen, nudging my head in Dale’s direction.

She glanced back and shrugged. “Not as much as it used to.” Echoing my earlier thought, she said, “He handles it well. Even when someone is being obnoxious.”

My phone vibrated and I checked the text.

I just got home. How’s Jeremy doing?

They won 1-0. :) And he was amazing.

Great! I’ll see you in a little bit then. Love you.

Love you, too.

“Kenny?” Karen asked.

I nodded and put my phone back in my pocket.

“He just got home.”

His father asked him to meet with the general manager and the team manager. Actually, I’m sure Mr. Hanover didn’taskso much as he demanded, but either way, that’s why Kenny didn’t come to the game with me.

“Where are you guys going tonight?”

“Sea Spice.”

“Ooh, fancy.”

“It’ll be nice to dress up and put on makeup. I may even wear heels.”

“Going all out, huh?”

“I want to give him a good visual to remember when we’re apart.”

“Kenny is crazy about you. I don’t think you have to worry about him forgetting one single detail.”

I’d wanted to talk to my sister-in-law about this whole long-distance relationship thing, but the timing was never right. Figuring Hannah and Sabrina would have some good input, I was going to broach the subject last night at Dale’s when Dan and Jack joined us.

I mentally shrugged. I’ll call her once I get back to Florida if I still want to talk about it.

“Penny!”

I stood when I spotted Jeremy jogging in my direction.

“Hey bud.” I gave him a big hug and stepped back. “You were awesome!”

“Thanks.” He gestured toward the field. “I’ve been telling the guys about you and they really want to meet you.”

“Me? Seriously?”
