“I decided to take your suggestion after last time and got a suite downtown,” he told me.

“First the picture taking, and now the hotel suggestions. I’m glad you’ve finally recognized how resourceful I am.”

“Oh, I’mwell awareof your resourcefulness. I’m appreciative of it, too. After dessert, you want to get out of here?” he wondered. “I’d like to thoroughly show you my appreciation.”

I wiggled my eyebrows. “Yes, please. I have a few ways I’d like to show my appreciation as well.”

A smile tugged at his lips. “I like the sound of that.”

“The amazing gifts. That helicopter ride. Your magic touch. This delicious dinner.” I bit my lip. “I’m going to make sure you feel every ounce of my appreciation.”

His eyes darkened. “Don’t give me that look, Nina…”

“I love the sky and you found a way to give it to me.” I tilted my head to the side. “And when we get back to the hotel, I’m going to give it to you.”

His tongue ran from one side of his mouth to the other. “Nina,” he warned quietly.

Our waitress came up with our desserts. “Here’s something sweet for you,” she said as she placed Russ’s dessert in front of him. “And yours.” She damn near threw mine in front of me. “Can I get you anything else?”

Her back was to me but when I saw her friend, the nosey waitress with the questions, what I’d suspected all along was confirmed.

This bitch is trying to poach my date!

Smirking, I shook my head. I didn’t like it, but I respected the game.

It wasn’t my style, but Russ didn’t have a wedding ring on his finger, so he was technically a free man. Personally, I wouldn’tapproach a man while he appeared to be on a date. I’d wait until he was alone and then make my move. Or better yet, I’d slip a note in his to-go box.

I took a bite out of one of my date bars.Amateur.

“Can we get the check and my Greek cookies, please?” Russ requested.

“Right away,” she answered.

“How are your date bars?” he asked, shifting his focus back to me.

The waitress took a second to get her feet in motion, but then she rushed away from the table.

“Pretty good. I didn’t know what to expect but I like them.” I licked my lips. “You want a taste?”

“I want more than a taste.”

“And I’ll give it to you.” I slipped the dessert into his mouth. “I’ll give you all of it.”

“Mmm,” he groaned as he grabbed my hand. Kissing my fingers as he chewed, he nodded. “That’s the second-best thing I tasted tonight.”

“What was the first?”

“Your juices while we were flying over the city. It was good from my fingers, but I’m ready to drink from the source.”

“Here’s your check,” the waitress said, interrupting our back-and-forth. “And here’s your to-go bag. Anything else?”

Russ tore his eyes from me and looked at the bill. “I’m going to need two boxes because we’re taking these to go, too.”

“Oh! Crema catalana is best when eaten immediately,” she informed him.

He handed her one hundred and fifty dollars. “We have plans so we’re going to take this to go.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll be right back,” she said.
