“No, you’re not, but you’ll get there.” He kissed her again, laying back on the bed. “Let me hold you for a while.”

She nodded. “I’d like that.”

“So would I,” he replied. He held her close to him. His dick, still semi-hard, stayed within her. Pride filled his chest along with something else he couldn’t quite pinpoint emotion wise. Maybe it was a weird guy thing where the thought his cum and his dick would magically make everything Ginger went through disappear.

“I still think I should leave,” she whispered. “Look at everything that’s happened.”

“You’re not taking the blame for something Oscar did.” He stroked her back, trying to ease her worry. “I won’t let you. Not now. Not ever. We’ll figure this out together, Ginger.”

She sighed, snuggling into his chest. “You’ve always been so damn confident about everything.”

He chuckled softly, twitching within her, causing them both to moan. “Because I know what my team is capable of. I also know how many people, especially assholes who hold grudges, underestimate us.” He tipped her chin up. “If you don’t believe me on anything else, understand this; I will protect you and the kids.”

“I know you will,” she said. “You’ve proven it time and time again.”

“You’re my priority.” He kissed her. The simmering heat of his lust burned bright, and he groaned. “I want you again, Ginger, and I shouldn’t. I should walk away and give you space, but I want to fuck you all night. I want you so full of my cum. When you move, you’ll remember it was me inside you. Me who made your orgasm. Me, who took away all of your horrible memories.”

She sobbed as he moved. “You were always insatiable, weren’t you?” Her blunt nails dug into his shoulders as he fucked her in hard, demanding thrusts.

“For you,” he groaned. “Always. I never could get enough.” His lips brushed the shell of her ear. “Do you know how many times I jacked off to the memory of fucking you? How many times I shouted your name as my cock throbbed and emptied in my palm?”

“Jake,” she whimpered. “That’s fucking hot.”

“I did it while we were married, too.” He nipped the lobe of her ear. “I’d fuck you all-night and still wake up hard. I knew I could slip back between your cum covered thighs and get off inside you, but I also knew you’d be sore from fucking me all night, so I’d take a shower and jerk off to images from the night before.”

“Why are you telling me this now?” She sighed, clinging to him as her pussy clenched and squeezed around him.

“Because you’re turned on by the idea of seeing me stroking my cock. You like the thought of watching me masturbate and seeing me orgasm. I’ll let you watch later,” he said on a groan. “Then I’ll fuck you in the shower, too.”

She cried out, fluttering around him. “You’re such a pervert, Jake O’Malley.”

His laugh was clipped, followed by moan as she climaxed. “I’m your pervert.” His pace increased. His thrusts were unhinged. The minute her orgasm hit its peak, he held himself deep and gave over to the arousal and pleasure spilling through his veins. He was in too deep, he knew that. Ginger wasn’t in the right frame of mind to even consider taking him back, but at the moment, he didn’t care.

There was nowhere else he’d rather be than deep inside his ex-wife.

Chapter 10

The base was supposed to be their safety net. The one place they could go to hide and never be found. Unfortunately, they didn’t even have that anymore—a safe place to hide. When Asher returned to the base, he called a meeting. They were being forced—temporarily—off the base, until the commission could be convened, and Congress had time to go over the ‘evidence,’ collected against R.O.O.T.. Asher wasn’t angry about the trial, no, he was pissed because every time they got clear of the bullshit, someone had to suck them back in. He was also angry at his uncle. Of all the people who could have given him a heads up, Senator McNamara was the one person Asher trusted most besides Rae and the team. Regrettably, his uncle didn’t even know about the commission. Which, to Jake, made the whole situation worse. The stank rolling off the whole thing reeked of foul play.

Putting everyone back out into the public eye could be detrimental to the entire team. And maybe that’s what whoever put Oscar up to this wanted. Yes, they all had their respective homes in the cove. Yes, all of them but Jake had a safe room with comms, but to what end were they actually protected? Was that the point of all of it? Leave them hanging out with targets on their backs? It would fit for how things had been going over the last few weeks.

Then there was everything with Ginger. God damn, being with her was like old hat for him. He couldn’t get enough of her. However, he also felt like he was taking advantage of the situation—close quarters and all that shit. Plus, she was grieving. Whether she said so out loud, he knew she had to be. Everything about her life with Oscar was a lie. Add in the fact, when Jake had been given the okay, he’d gone to Ethan’s house with Thomas to retrieve all the files, computers and thumb drives Oscar had in his office. Seeing Ethan and hearing his side of things opened another wound for Ginger. It had to have. Of course, Jake felt bad for Ethan, too. The guy had been put into a fucked situation right along with Ginger. Ethan had expectations for his life with his partner, and those expectations were all a lie, as they had been for Ginger.

So having sex with his ex-wife should have been the last thing he’d done. Although, he didn’t regret it. Not by a long shot. No, he worried more about the fact he’d potentially taken her choice away like Oscar had when he’d gotten her pregnant. That’s what kept him awake the last few nights as he pored over all the files he and Thomas had downloaded, then printed out. Add in the fact he’d fucked Ginger bare and didn’t know if she was on any kind of birth control... He was really fucking things up all over again.

Jake’s comm beeped in his ear, dragging him from his morose thoughts. The words in the file in front of him cleared from their blurry mess, revealing he’d been staring at the same information he’d been reading over for God only knew how long. “Get your ass to my house. We’re going to have a meeting.” Asher’s tone held an edge of something past fury and rage. Whatever he’d found out couldn’t have been good.

“Should I bring Ginger and the kids?” he asked, closing the file in his hands.

“You can.” Asher blew out a breath. He sounded exhausted. Hell, they all were. “I’m sure Rae will have all the women working on dinner or something.”

Jake chuckled. “See you in five.”

He put the file back in the drawer of his desk, then headed out to find Ginger and the kids. Being in the house with them was like coming home for him, even though they weren’t exactly a family again. Him and Ginger had shit to work out, and he hoped while they were there, they could talk, take it a step at a time, even if that meant taking sex off the table until Ginger was ready, and he wasn’t being a greedy asshole.

As he came downstairs, he heard Fawn laugh. He peered out through the kitchen onto the back porch area and there they were, playing. Declan was sitting on a blanket with a few toys while Fawn was beside him, teaching him the signs for the objects she held. Declan’s squeals of laughter warmed the hallow spot in Jake’s chest. The spot he’d carved out the minute he walked away from Ginger to begin with. Seeing his daughter play with her little brother, fuck, love burned bright within him once more. Ginger had given Fawn the one thing he’d desperately yearned to give her as well—a sibling, so she’d never be alone.

Jake closed the distance between them, clearing his throat. “I hate to break up the little party out here, but Asher has requested we join him at his house. Something about dinner and a meeting.”
