“I’d never say never. I’m just relieved I didn’t have any with my ex. That might have made our divorce an even bigger disaster and force me to be tied to her for years.” He shuddered dramatically.
“But if you did, you would have loved them no matter what,” Cara said.
“Of course.”
She waited for him to expand on that, but instead, he went back to eating his s’more. “Dayne?”
“What?”
“What about you?”
“Yes, I could eat another s’more,” he answered.
She clicked her tongue. “I’m asking about marriage and children.”
“Oh.” He sighed. “I don’t know. I kind of like how my life is now.”
“Nothing could improve it?”
“Oh, plenty could improve it, but I’m not sure marriage and children would fit that bill.”
“So, you never want to settle down?”
He stared at her. “Why are you asking?”
“I’m only curious. You said you’ve had relationships in the past, but nothing serious. I understand why Heath and I would be gun shy about it, but what’s stopping you?”
“Nothing is stopping me except personal choice. Marriage and children aren’t for everyone. But like Heath, I’d never say never.”
Then he stopped talking and concentrated on lighting his next marshmallow on fire.
She mentally sighed.
Maybe now wasn’t the right time to talk about their future and what it meant for the three of them. While she didn’t want to keep pushing them and ruin the evening, if this relationship kept continuing on its current path, it would need to be addressed at some point.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Dayne wasn’t happy. He had wanted to sit down with both Cara and Heath and talk to them. Actually, more like propose an idea.
Unfortunately, Cara couldn’t come to the resort this weekend because her sister was throwing their cousin a baby shower. Not only was Cara attending, but she needed to help with the party.
That meant this was the first weekend since both Heath and her began staying with him on the ranch that it would only be the two men.
It didn’t take long before they had moved from every other weekend to spending every weekend with Dayne. In fact, he couldn’t imagine spending one without Heath. Or Cara.
But without her here, they felt off. Incomplete.
Their threesome had fallen into an easy rhythm. Every weekend they learned something new about each other. Every weekend they pushed their sexcapades a little further.
Not once had the sex been boring.
Not once had it been unsatisfying.
Not once had it been forgettable.
Not once had Dayne thought about hooking up with anyone else during the days and nights Heath or Cara weren’t around.
Not even once.
