Ican’t believe what just happened. If someone had told me this morning that I would be on a date with Luca Romano, I would have said they were on something. Even more that I would like it.
He is a deeply troubling individual who gives nothing away and I kind of love that quality in a guy. I understand it and admire it. He is no different to my family, and it’s a homecoming of sorts.
Mason was cool but had none of the dark energy of Luca and I wonder how he will play this with Frankie. I’m guessing it won’t be easy and it’s too close to call. My money isalwayson my brother, but for some reason I believe he may have met his match in Luca Romano.
“Hey, Summer. I’ve been looking for you.”
Siri heads my way and I push away my guilty conscience and smile.
“Sorry.”
I offer no explanation and shrug. “What’s on your mind?”
“I just wanted to catch up with my cousin.”
Her open smile reminds me of how good it is to be here with someone I trust more than I do myself, and she jerks her head to the door I’ve just entered through.
“Fancy a coffee at the cafeteria?”
“Sure.”
As we head outside, she links her arm in mine. “How are you finding Rockwell?”
“It’s good. Different from what I expected.”
“In what way?”
“Freedom I guess.”
“It’s a world away from high school. We’re considered adults now.”
“And that was their first mistake.”
Siri chuckles. “You got that right.”
She adds slyly, “I heard you went on a date.”
I almost trip over my feet and my blood heats as I stutter, “Who told you that?”
“A little bird told me that Mason, the cute new jock was heard telling his friends he was meeting you for pizza. How did it go?”
I swallow hard. “It didn’t.”
“What happened?”
She appears shocked at that, and I shrug. “He stood me up.”
“No way!”
She groans. “Do you think Frankie had a word?”
“Who knows?”
I’m deliberately vague because despite the fact I’ve always confided in Siri, this will not be one of those times. My date with Luca could have been the only one and I’m not about to ruin my chance of another one.
“That sucks, Summer.”
“It’s fine. I wasn’t that bothered, anyway.”
