“Tonight it is.”

I blush and he strokes my face gently, staring almost lovingly in to my eyes as he whispers, “I’ll meet you at the door to the basement of Willow Trees House at midnight.”

“Midnight?”

Why does that sound so romantic?

“Yes.” He inserts his finger into my mouth and groans as I suck it in deeper.

“I know of a place we won’t be disturbed.”

“Is it safe?”

I’m anxious and he nods, a wicked grin spearing his lips.

“It is. But it involves a short ride away from the academy.”

“What if we’re caught leaving?”

“We won’t be.”

He smiles. “So, until midnight. Perhaps we should rejoin the party and show our faces.”

“Perhaps we should.”

As I stand, he joins me and reaches for my hand, and I tremble inside. It’s so different now. Even before we are intimate I sense a close bond with Luca I never understood the strength of before. If I’m feeling this now, what the hell will it be like after he takes something I have held onto for far too long already?

Waiting for him.

My heart tells me it was always meant to be him.

LUCA

At one minute past midnight, the basement door opens and Summer edges out, anxiety surrounding her. It appears confidence has deserted her and I wonder if she’s having second thoughts.

“Hey.”

I step out of the darkness and she smiles, a flicker of apprehension in her expression.

“Hey.”

We only left one another thirty minutes ago. The party wrapped up quickly tonight because the newly formed couples were more interested in spending time alone and the resident couples appeared to want the same. The Claiming ceremony itself is an extreme aphrodisiac for everyone involved, and I am no different.

I hold out my hand.

“Come, we’ll keep to the shadows. Nobody will see us.”

“Are you sure about that?”

Summer sounds nervous and I drop a light kiss on her cheek. “If they notice us, they won’t suspect anything. Everyone knowswe are together now and will soon be used to seeing us as a couple.”

“Except for my brother.”

Summer groans. “I still can’t believe he agreed to this.”

I say nothing because Frankie and I reached an understanding. Mess things up with his sister and I mess up with him. Big time.
