“And cheesy,” Sunny added.
“But it’s tradition.” Tigra smacked her lips. “This frosé is tasty as hell. Alright, when do we get moving?”
Daisy rounded the corner, drink in hand, looking somewhat relaxed for the first time in days.
“Ladies,” she greeted. “Glad to be around some women close to my own age. These screaming Gen Z-ers are tapdancing on my last nerve.”
The three of them clinked glasses to that.
“I hope y’all aren’t prone to seasickness. I was told the waves out here can get rough.”
“When are we leaving?” Tigra said.
Daisy downed her drink. “We’re waiting on one more guest. She just got to the villa.”
Sunny and Tigra exchanged glances.
The lowdown hoe bag eagle had landed.
Sunny downed another drink and was reaching for a third when the bitch walked in looking pretty enough to be irritating.
It got worse when Brooklyn ran over to give her a hug. Sunny felt a strange mix of anger, jealousy, and betrayal, which she knew to be totally irrational.
Tigra was barefoot now, and yelling over the music, dancing like the rent was due. Sunny decided to let her be for the moment, turning her attention to the ocean instead.
She heard Brooklyn behind her making the introductions. This is Fallon,Davion’s father’s fiancée. Sunny thought that was way too many syllables being wasted on such a worthless hoe.
She sipped her drink, feeling her muscles relax as the words began to mingle into a hum. The boat moved suddenly, throwing Sunny to the side, making her grab the railing for dear life. She laughed to herself, stood upright, and decided to be the bigger person here.
That lasted about five minutes.
Seeing Fallon in the center of Brooklyn’s friends, twerking as they yelled, “Aye, aye” and recorded themselves made her see red. Tigra was loyal, at least. She’d made fast friends with the captain.
Sunny was headed in that direction when Fallon intercepted her.
“Hey, Sunny.” She fanned her face as though she’d worked up a sweat doing something productive. “Good to see you.”
Sunny blinked.
“Can I hang with y’all?” she said, nodding towards Tigra. “I think I’m a little too old to be in with the in-crowd.”
Brooklyn walked up behind Fallon, while Tigra made her way over.
“You lost?” she asked as she stopped next to Sunny.
“We’re all good here, right?” Brooklyn’s eyes flickered over the little group. “I know there might be some tension, but I want everybody to have a good time.”
“I’m having an amazing time,” Sunny gushed as she reached for another drink. “Long as that bitch stays away from me.”
Fallon nodded, turning on her heels to rejoin the younger girls. Jules frowned as she passed her, wondering what was wrong.
“I must have missed something,” she announced.
“You remember,” Brooklyn mumbled. “The one who…” she trailed off, widening her eyes to signal Jules.
“The one who Davion’s father cheated on me with,” Sunny said matter-of-factly. “We’re surrounded by dicks, y’all. There’s no need to beat around the bush.”
Tigra snickered.
