White walls filled with lovely landscape pictures everywhere you look make you feel at one with nature while not stepping foot into her domain. The lighting is perfect, and really livens up the place.

What I really love about it is the yellow ceiling with intricately carved lines that travel the entire length of the open space. They did some fancy designs to bring the walls to life. I can’t tell if it’s paneling or just plain molding, all in all, it’s very beautiful. The round tables are a nice touch, reminding me of the cute, little, round tableThe Golden Girlsshared.

It’s a really beautiful place, and I’m happy to be a part of it all. Jake comes from money. His parents, Judy and John Rockerfeller, were born into money and passed it down to him.

Of course, he still had to work for it, but he’s going to school to become a lawyer, so he’ll have no problem bringing money of his own.

His parents were okay, but I know deep down… They don’t like me because I’m not the girl they picked out for their son. He said he didn’t care what his parents thought because he’d never let them tell him who he could or couldn’t love.

I think it was on that day that I fell head over heels in love with him.

Glass still in hand, I swirl the white liquid around before taking another sip. I love the way the coolness slides down my throat, settling in the base of my stomach.

Looking up, I see Jake watching me through hooded lids.

“Darling, we’ve been together for a while now.” He says, pulling something out of his coat pocket. Setting my glass down, confusion blooming on my face as my nerves kick up to high gear.

I mean, sure, we’ve talked about getting married. But we also talked about waiting until we were both flourishing in our careers. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that we aren’t where we should be in life to consider marriage yet.

He’s the only boy I’ve ever been with, and I’m not sure I’m ready for that kind of commitment.

Who am I kidding?

Those are nothing but lies.

I’ve dreamt of this day since I was a little girl. Dreamt of the day my Prince Charming, who loved me more than his stupid parents and their crazy demands for him to marry a girl like them.

A girl that came from money and power, and didn’t have dark skin like me.

The unspoken words his parents tap danced around whenever I was near, but didn’t have a problem voicing their opinion of me the moment they thought I left the room.

When I heard him take up for me the first time, I knew he was the one for me.

My person.

The man I would get to spend forever with.

I loved him more than life itself.

“Darling, are you paying attention to me?” He asks, snapping his fingers in my face as I got lost in my own world.

“Of course, I’m paying attention.” I lie, with this goofy grin on my face because I know in my heart and soul… This was the first day of our forever.

Chapter Three

2 years later

It’s 10:27pm on a Friday night.

Like most nights, I rev my engine down the streets of Jersey City. The place I’m headed to wasn’t too far away, but out of reach if I never wanted to be found. Zooming down Montgomery Street, I steer my bike towards the club with Tark close behind me.

Arriving hours after the doors open, is the highlight of my night. We pull our bikes around the building and park.

Ever so smoothly I toss my leg over the side and stand up, pulling my helmet off. I take a deep breath, , letting the night air fill my lungs.
