Fifteen minutes later, and she still has a scowl on her face and hasn’t given me any helpful answers.

“Did he tell you his name?”

“No.”

“What did he look like?”

“Girl, I told you, we couldn’t see each other.” I say, rolling my eyes.

“I really wish I could whip you.” She says, swatting my arm as her hand passes right through it. “I was still trying to process the fact that he stuck his finger in your mouth, told you to suck, and you listened.”

“Yeah, so.” I huff.

“You listened to somebody give an order to you?”

“Yeah, so- I see your friggin’ point.” I say as her words hit me like a ton of bricks. “You already know I don’t listen well, but he listened to me, too, so we’re even.” I say, crossing my arms and leaving the bathroom.

“What do you mean he listened, too?”

“When he growled, I told him to do it again. He gave me lip, but then did it without even knowing it, so we’re even.” I stick my tongue out at her. Is it a juvie move, sure is. Am I proud of myself? You bet your ass I am.

“You’re extra petty, do you know that?”

“I do, now tell me what you think is going on.” I say, trying to pump her for information, because I want to be prepared, should he come knocking at my door or sliding into my dreams.

“It sounds like he’s a killer, will kill you without thinking twice, but in your case, he wants to see you die by his hands, otherwise you wouldn’t be standing here with me.” She begins. “It also sounds like you both have a weird sexual attraction to each other, and I haven’t a clue where that came from when neither of you could see one another.”“I told you, he kinda felt me up, plus he said he could see my aura which outlines my body.” Yeah, so there’s that. I don’t know why I even care so much, this dude literally wants to kill me. And I literally want to fuck him. Goddess, I’m sick!

“Have you told your parents?”

“Nope, and I’m not gonna tell them.” I make my way around the room, getting my black and white pencil skirt, a white blouse, and red pumps together to head into work. I decide against the turtle necks, because no one is gonna be getting close enough to see my neck anyways.

“You have to. They may be able to tell you more about who he could be or evenwhathe could be.” She sounds worried. “Moon, you can’t play with things like this, there are people out there that would hurt you just because of the power you have.”

“Grams, I’m not that special. Sure, I can talk to the dead, see in the blackest of night, do some really cool magic, and talk to animals.” I whisper the last part because not even she knows I can do that. “The Messengers truly are evil and beingsI don’t want to get tangled up with them. I’ve stayed off their radar for this long, just to be extra cautious. If I’m still on their list they must really have nothing better to do.” I laugh. All dressed and ready for work, I turn to face her.

“What’s happened that could have triggered something like this? You’ve never shared dreams before, right?” She questions.

“No, not even with Astra.”

“So, what could have happened for the balance to be shifted and the both of you to get thrown into a dream… Together?” Okay, now she has the wheels in my head turning because I have no fucking idea what it could be.

“The only thing that’s recently happened was the death of Astra.” I try to think back further than that, but nothing else comes to mind.

“You should get your parents involved, they could help.”

“Wait a minute, Dad is really my father right?” I don’t know why this of all things came to mind.

“Well yes, darlin’, that’s your father. Why would you think otherwise?” She asks with a nervous chuckle.

“Because he’s white, Mom’s black but like on the lighter side, and then there’s me with my brown, caramel colored skin. I just thought I’d ask.” Now that the question has left my mouth, I see how ridiculous it sounds.

“You don’t need to worry about that, baby, he’s your father. Now, I know you have to go. Be careful and if you can think of anything else, you know how to find me.” She says as she begins to flicker.

“Yes, Grams, I do. I’ll talk to you later, I’m sure.” I blow her a kiss as she disappears.

“Oh, and tell your parents I said hello before you tell them about this dream.” And then she’s gone.

“Jezz, you can be a real bully sometimes.” I say as I hear her chuckle fading away with her. I don’t know what any of this means, but I suppose I need to tell them about this one. Whatever it may be, I’m sure I can handle it.
