“Shit, sorry. What’d I miss again?”

“Wow are you distracted lately.”

“I know. It’s bad. I’ve got it bad.”

“Yeah, you do.” Kamryn could hear the smile in Greer’s voice. “You get dressed. Call me tomorrow with all the details and tell me if I can stop lying to all our friends or not.”

“Will do. Love you!”

“Love you, too. Go get ’em, tiger!”

Kamryn laughed as she hung up, really needing to pull herself together quickly. Luckily, she was fairly low-maintenance, unlike Elia, so she was changed and out the door in fifteen minutes and walking toward Elia’s house.

Knocking on the door was so reminiscent of the other night, when she was filled with anger and frustration, when they’d definitely fucked on the kitchen counter. Kamryn’s lips curled up at that memory. She wasn’t ever going to tell anyone that. That was for her and Elia only. When Elia opened the door, Kamryn’s breath caught.

She was stunning.

Her jacket was loose around her shoulders still, not buttoned up all the way, and it revealed a beautiful red dress underneath, smooth fabric that Kamryn could definitely imagine running her fingers up and over time and time again, if just to get in one more touch.

“Come inside a second,” Elia said, her voice husky and deep.

Kamryn wasn’t even sure what controlled her, but she walked inside and shut the door behind her.

“Much better,” Elia said, grinning. “Can I?”

“Can you what?” Kamryn frowned in confusion.

“Kiss you,” Elia answered, the most beautiful smile gracing her lips. She was chock full of confidence, with an added dose of sassy. “I didn’t want to do it without asking.”

“Fuck yes.” Kamryn stepped in closer, immediately wrapping her hand around the back of Elia’s neck and pressing their mouths together. Elia melted into her. She closed her eyes, doing everything by feel, overwhelming herself with the scents and touches and warmth of the moment.

Moaning, Kamryn nipped at Elia’s lower lip before diving back in for more. All the tension from the day vanished into thin air, and she relaxed instantly in Elia’s arms. She craved this, more than she’d known. Someone who could just hold her and manage to relax her. Someone who was there when she needed her to be.

“Kam,” Elia whispered against her lips. “If we don’t leave now, we’re going to be late for our reservation.”

“All right,” Kamryn murmured back. “Just one more for the road.”

“Kam,” Elia tried again. “As much as I’d love to go upstairs with you, I really do think that we need to talk before we do that again.”

“You’re right.” Kamryn kissed again quickly. “Dinner.”

Kamryn took a purposeful step away, and Elia was so grateful for that. Her entire body was heated and raring to go, and not to dinner. She wanted to drag Kamryn upstairs and stay up there for the rest of the night. It was taking all her willpower to stay right where she was.

Buttoning her jacket purposely, Elia set her shoulders and straightened her back. Theyreallyneeded to talk. Especially after her conversation with Abagail earlier that week. She couldn’t avoid this one any longer. None of them could.

Kamryn held her arm out, expecting Elia to slide her arm into the nook of her elbow and walk together. Elia flicked her gaze down to Kamryn’s arm and then back up to her face. She shook her head slowly. “As much as I would like to, I think it’s probably a better decision not to at this point in time.”

“Oh.” Kamryn frowned, a dark cloud coming over her in an instant.

“It’s part of what I want to talk to you about. I hope you understand.”

“I do.”

But Elia wasn’t sure that Kamryn did. She hadn’t been through the experiences that Elia had, and she wouldn’t be as cautious. She should be, but she was far more innocent in this part of their relationship—if they even had one at the end of the night. God, Elia hoped they would.

“Come on,” Elia said, snagging her purse and slinging it over her arm. “Let’s go.”
