We exchange a look.

“What the hell is happening? Who could be trying to get both of us?”

Vince’s eyes dart toward the window, but nobody would know who we are from all the way out there. He leaves the room and I follow.

I get to my phone first and see a fuck ton of texts from Neil. His name flashes on the screen with an incoming call, and I stab the Accept button before it finishes ringing.

“Neil, what the hell is happening? What’s so urgent?”

“I’ve been fielding calls for the past hour. Somehow the press got hold of a video of you and Vince Castro having some kind of lovers’ quarrel.”

My gut wrenches. Neil lets out a deep sigh and my eyes tangle with Vince’s as he speaks into his phone in a hushed tone. “I don’t know what the hell is going on between you two, but you’d better figure it out fast because it’s about to hit the airwaves everywhere. It’s trending on social media, and it’s all over the Internet already. You might want to take cover because shit’s about to blow up, starting with Senator Castro’s presidential campaign.”

I scrub a hand down the front of my face, a deep sigh slumping my shoulders.

Motherfucker. Everything was so good, dammit. Who the fuck would want to sabotage us both with a video?

And why do I feel like the campaign isn’t the first thing that’s going to blow up?

Chapter 30

Vince

“Vince, your father asked me to call you. He needs to see you in his office right away.”

I recoil at Carolyn’s tone. She’s usually snooty, but today I detect a hint of sympathy in her voice. What the hell is that all about?

My eyes find Gabe’s panicked ones and my chest tightens.

Why is he looking at me like that?

“It’s important that you get here as soon as possible. He’ll be waiting.”

Click.

Before I can even breathe.

And judging from Gabe’s expression, I’m a little afraid to.

My hand drops from my ear. “What do you know?”

Gabe takes a few steps toward me. “That was Neil.” He scrubs a hand down the front of his face. “He said there’s a video about to break of the two of us arguing outside your hotel room.”

“Fuck. You mean…the morning after?”

Gabe nods. “Not our shining moment.”

I fist the sides of my hair. “Someone must have leaked it to my dad. He wants me at his office ASAP.”

“It’s about to break all over the news.”

My cell phone rings again, and I stare at the screen for a second before stabbing the Accept button.

“I already know, E.”

“Holy shit, Vince. You need to get down here now. Bob Sinclair is in with Dad right now,” Eva whisper-shouts into the phone. “He’s going insane in there, and I’m scared for Dad. What if?—?”

“Don’t worry. I’m on my way.” I end the call and start pulling on my clothes.
