“Are you going to take care of him?” Oaklynn doesn’t take her eyes off Kirill, but I know she’s asking all of us.
“He will die,” Kirill vows.
Oaklynn gives a nod, her eyes softening. “Then this,” she motions toward the bruises becoming even more pronounced, “doesn’t matter. He’ll get his and when the smoke clears, we’ll be happy.”
Kirill’s hand shoots out and wraps around the back of our woman’s neck. “Solnishko, we don’t deserve you.”
She doesn’t have the chance to respond before Kirill covers her mouth with his own. Watching my brother kiss our woman only makes me hunger for her more. As she moans and opens for him, her arms wrap around his neck as Baker pushes her a step closer and into his body.
As Kirill releases Oaklynn, I’m right there. I turn her toward me and slam my mouth down on hers. It’s the only thing that calms the bloodlust pumping through me.
“Maxim,” she groans against my lips, and I swallow down the sound.
I’m going to need to get some alone time with our woman. Sooner rather than later. Or else no one will be able to hold me responsible for my actions.
CHAPTER 17
HUCK
It’s been a few days since Chambers came into Kirill’s office, and they came to an agreement. I’m still on edge over the whole thing. The idea that we’re keeping up appearances for Chambers, to lull him into the idea that he’s won, grates at me.
Not killing the man in Kirill’s office was difficult. I know I wasn’t the only one who struggled either. All of us wanted to kill Chambers.
Seeing Oaklynn make herself small to play the role her father expected was like a punch to the gut. She should never feel less than the queen she is.
We only want to build her up and asking her to not shine as brightly as she does naturally, killed something inside of me. That’s not how things are supposed to be at all.
I’ve been monitoring everything Chambers has been up to since he left the building. He’s not even trying to hide his movements and contacts. It’s pissing me off.
Knowing Oaklynn is doing some online shopping at home, which is being watched over by some of Baker’s men, I stride into Kirill’s office because he needs this update. My strides pause for a moment when I see Wolfe, Dominic, and Hendrix are hereas well.
It’s been over a week since we’ve gotten an update from the guys. Their task is to try and run down information on what Mikhail is up to on the streets is not an easy one. It’s felt like every time they get closer to finding him or getting more information on his movements, he disappears.
The thought that piece of shit is a few steps ahead of us burns in my gut. He won’t be able to hide forever, that’s a fact. But he has had time to make plans and that’s what has me worried.
We have a lot more to lose now with Oaklynn in our lives. Knowing Chambers is working on their side and the danger our woman has been in for years, without even knowing, is hard to swallow.
“The guys were just about to update me,” Kirill informs me and nods toward one of the seats.
“Good. I also have some news,” my voice holds an ominous note to it that I’m sure everyone in the room can hear.
“Is this about your woman?”
I’m not surprised by Hendrix’s question or that he knows about our woman considering the connection to Morozov and all the bullshit Mikhail has been pulling.
“Of course,” I tell him with a nod, and he smirks in response.
Hendrix grins at my response and shares a look with his guys. It wasn’t that long ago that they found their woman, Kirby. Her life was changed years ago by Morozov, and her trauma had her running all over the world to find her strength and herself again. But she found it.
It was entirely kismet that Kirby crossed paths with the same group of mercs who were there the night when she was rescued. A lot of puzzle pieces had to come together perfectly for it all to happen, including her being rescued.
But everything happened the way it was supposed to.
They’re happy and in love.
Now it’s time to deal with Mikhail. I have a feeling that we’re going to have to smoke him out of hiding. Maybe this arrangement with Oaklynn will be the thing to do it.
Chambers is greedy and he has no loyalty. That will work to our advantage.
