“You’re- you’re falling for Ronnie, though. I wanted to give you a chance to be with him, without me here getting in the way.”
Ty gave an amused huff and pressed into me, sliding his arm around my shoulder and pulling me against him. I caught a whiff of his scent, that homely smell I associated with Ty – a mixture of his deodorant, fabric softener and something uniquelyhim.
His voice was calm, lulling me into a false sense of security. “You’re right, I am falling for Ronnie.”
This was apparently the first sweet little Ronnie had heard of it because he gave a gasp and nearly fell off the bed. He had to kick his legs around like a turtle on its back for a moment before he managed to get upright again. I didn’t move until I was sure he was securely settled again, since I didn’t want to jostle the bed and tip him off. But as soon as he was upright, I tried to ease my way out of Ty’s embrace. And, if anyone had told me a week ago that I’d ever, ever want to do that, I’d have thought they were criminally insane – why would I ever want to getawayfrom Ty?
He tightened his hold on me, though, and wrapped his other arm around me like a band. He wasn’t hurting me – Ty would never hurt anyone – but it confused me. I wanted to get away, protect myself, but my body was overwhelmed and didn’t get the memo and melted against him.
“But you’re not in the way here, Alder. You’re never in the way. We want you to stay.”
That sounded like absolute torture. To watch these two – the only people in the world I’ve ever loved – grow closer and be together while I stood on the side-lines. No, thank you.
“I don’t—”
Ty cut me off. “Alder, we don’t want you to go. I don’t want to be with Ronnie without you. I don’t want to doanythingwithout you.”
“What—?”
Justwhat?
“You’re falling for him too, aren’t you?”
That sounded like a trap.
He jostled me with his arms and I reluctantly admitted, “Yes.”
To my surprise, he beamed. For a second, I was stunned by how beautiful he was. Ty had always had the power to take my breath away.
But that didn’t make sense. Why was he happy that I was perving on his guy?
Ty let go of me with one arm and held out his hand to Ronnie. The omega took it without hesitation and Ty helped him up the bed so he was nestled against Ty’s other side, resting against the headboard.
“This,” he said, and I realised that Ronnie would be feeling the deep rumble of his voice through his chest, just like I was. There was a lot of satisfaction in that. “This is what I want, Alder. I wantus.”
Ronnie squeaked, “You mean both?”
The horrible surge of hope that had rushed up inside me then crashed against my insides. Ronnie wasn’t going to agree to that. He was in love with Ty, not me. And it didn’t sound like he wanted to share.
Ty didn’t seem to notice. “Yes. I love you both. I’ve always loved Alder, since I can remember. I don’t think I’m a complete person without him. I never thought I’d find anyone else who could make me feel love like that, Ronnie. Then you came along and I realised I had more love inside me than I’d thought. I fell for you. We both did.”
I glanced at him, leaning forward to see around Ty’s massive chest. He was staring up at Ty in wonder and his eyes filled with tears again.
Ty smiled down at him. “Are these good tears this time?”
Ronnie buried his head in Ty’s side, nodding half into the alpha’s armpit. His voice was muffled. “Yes.”
Ty turned to look down at me. “Alder?”
“What?”
I could hardly keep up with what was happening. A part of my brain was shoutingwarning, warning, this isn’t real, something is wrong, but I couldn’t do anything but stare into Ty’s eyes.
“Do you love me?”
I gave a sharp nod, too overwhelmed to speak.
Ty leaned his head down a little, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “I’m going to need words this time. I’ve been dreaming about this for years and I need to be sure. Do you really love me?”
