She shakes her head, her smile blossoming again. “Just water for me right now. But I get my own drinks.”

I nod toward the kitchen. “Then let me escort you. I know where they keep the bottled water.”

Another suppressed giggle escapes her closed lips, but she shakes her head and steps next to me. “Alright, if you insist, McAdam.”

That has my brows rising in surprise. “You know my name.”

“Of course I do.” That irrepressible smile is still on her face. “I come to your practices at least once a week, not to mention your games. Your name is on your jersey.”

“Ah, but you made the effort to remember it,” I say, leaning in close and almost whispering the words in her ear.

Goosebumps rise on her neck, and my grin is now one of triumph. Yeah, this plan is the best one I’ve had in ages. It’s much better than helping my roommate fuck my sister silly at every opportunity, which I’m sure they’re doing right now, actually. I’m not going to be home for a while, and even though they both showed up to this party with me, I haven’t seen either one in the last half hour. Ten to one they’re already home and naked.

Ugh.

But this plan means I have a high chance of getting with the chick who’s held my attention for longer than anyone in quite a while. Not that I have a ban on repeat performances or anything, but some chicks get the wrong idea if you bang ‘em too many times, so it’s best to keep repeats to a minimum. Plus, it’s the chase that’s half the fun. Once that’s over, my interest wanes pretty quickly.

With Simon and Ellie home already, my options for putting the moves on pretty Piper are limited to an empty room here or going back to her place, wherever that may be. “So do you live on campus?” I ask, trying to figure out the best plan of action for the evening.

She glances at me before turning her attention to the open cooler of ice and water next to the sliding glass door. This is a relatively small party at my teammate Trey’s house. He and his girlfriend Brandy like to host their friends pretty regularly. They tend to be smaller gatherings rather than the larger frat parties, though the usual football groupies always find out and show up, and since Brandy’s a cheerleader, her squad makes frequent appearances as well. Their parties are always a good time and have the added bonus of never getting out of hand or getting any of us in trouble with the coach. Trey knows how to toe the line between fun and following the rules.

Case in point, instead of a keg, they have open coolers of drinks, plus mixers and liquor on the counter by the sink. The beer and other drinks are mostly for the non-athlete crowd, because our diet plans don’t usually allow for that many extra calories. We tend to go for low cal mixers and liquor, instead. I’ve been nursing a gin and tonic most of the night, but I grab a water out of the cooler, too. Hydration is always a good plan, especially if we’re going to exert ourselves later.

As she cracks open her water and takes a sip, Piper narrows her eyes at me. “Why are you asking?”

I shrug and lean against the wall, cracking open my own water and drinking deeply. It’s cool and crisp and almost erotic while I stand here trying to figure out the best way into Piper’s panties. “Just curious.”

Her narrowed eyes flicker over me again. “I live on campus.”

I nod, scanning the room, curious if her brother’s noticed I’m talking to her yet. Though he wasn’t too bothered about her talking to the other players earlier, so maybe he won’t care. Yet. I’ll make sure he cares before I’m done with her, though.

Piper’s voice draws my attention back to her. “Alright, well, good talk. See ya.” And she starts to move away.

I jolt upright from the wall and catch up to her before she can go more than a couple of feet. “What’s the matter? Why are you running away?”

That seems to be the right thing to say, because she stops and faces me, her shoulders square and her chin tipped up, fire starting to flicker in her eyes. “Excuse me? I’m not running away.”

I lift a single eyebrow. “Aren’t you, though? I thought we were getting to know each other, and you’re about to scamper off.” I lean in close and pitch my voice low again. “I promise I won’t bite unless you ask me to.” Then I grin to show off my teeth.

That has her laughing, which isn’t quite the reaction I was going for, but I’ll take it. At least she’s not leaving.

She crosses her arms, which makes her tits look even more luscious. “Does that line actually work?”

I give her a quizzical look.

She rolls one of her hands. “You know, about not biting unless asked. What makes you think I’d ask you to do anything to me with your mouth?”

Easing closer, I look her up and down, watching the way her eyes focus on my mouth, and let out a rumbly sound. “Well, for starters, the way you can’t take your eyes off me makes me think you’re attracted to me. You’ve paid enough attention to me to remember my name, even though we’ve only spoken one other time, and that was weeks ago.”

She scoffs. “Please. I know plenty of names of my brother’s teammates.” Her eyes meet mine, full of challenge. “And you’re his biggest rival. Of course I’d know yours.”

I give a slight shrug of ambivalence. “And the fact that you keep looking at my mouth?”

Her breath catches, pushing her tits against my chest. But then she steps back, breaking the contact, looking down and shaking her head, her soft chuckle just reaching my ears over the sounds of everyone else. “Nice try,” she says with a smirk, finally meeting my eyes again, though I don’t miss the way she keeps glancing at my lips like she can’t help herself.

I shrug again, just watching as she takes two more steps backwards before turning and rejoining the girls she obviously came in with. When she glances at me over her shoulder, I give her a wide, knowing grin. She rolls her eyes and turns away, pointedly ignoring me.

That’s alright, though. This isn’t the first time I’ve struck out with a girl. And I can’t help thinking this isn’t so much me striking out as it is her testing to see if I’m really serious.
