River?
They could need assistance with homework. It’d be the worst time ever for them to need help, but they didn’t know that.
Peering at the incoming video call from the unknown caller, his heart stopped.
Blue?
Had she gotten a phone somehow.
Mooky tapped the screen to answer. “Blue?”
Both Dash and Mittens flanked him, each of them looking over his shoulder at the phone screen.
It was Blue. The dark grainy image gave very few hints at her location. What the hell kind of phone did she have? With this bad of a picture, it had to be dated as hell.
No.
Wait.
Low light. She was somewhere dark.
“Blue.” He tried again, seeing as she was on her side in the fetal position.
What was she lying on?
Where the fuck was she?
The barbed wire of fear coiled around his heart, stabbing and constricting within his chest.
“Dakota!” he shouted desperately.
She didn’t move. She was unnaturally still.
Was she breathing?
She better be. Whoever did that to her would pray for mercy.
With his chest heaving, Mooky could barely catch his breath. He needed to get to her. He had to find her.
“Who’s holding the phone?” Dash asked in his ear.
“Hello, Charles.” The male voice on the other end elongated the end of his name like a snake.
Rage tinted Mooky’s vision red. It burned through his veins, making his hands shake. His free hand curled into a fist. He was desperate to find the face of Blue’s captor.
“What did you do?” Mooky demanded. “You hurt her. Iwillmake sure you suffer.”
The unseen man chuckled, but Mooky recognized him. He didn’t have to see him to know who had done this to his woman.
“I actually think she’s having a great time.” Between two thick fingers, the man holding the phone showed a syringe. “I’ve heard the high from this is quite euphoric. Have too much though, and it’s quite messy.”
When he lowered the syringe, the phone struggled to focus in the dim lighting. As though it would help, the three bikers leaned in closer to the phone.
They couldn’t see her face. Her two-toned hair covered it. But there was something—she was on the ground, obviously. The thing beneath her was stained with a giant pile of goop by her head.
“What is that?” Dash whispered as he squinted.
Mooky’s shoulders went up just as Blue coughed and retched. On her side, thankfully, she vomited into the existing pile.
