Curling herself up into a tight ball, she cursed everything that made their relationship complicated. What she wouldn’t give to have a boring run-of-the-mill existence with him.
She could do the white picket fence, nine-to-five thing if it meant they’d get to be happy together. She’d sacrifice. What deity demanded it? That was all she needed to know. Where did she have to send her prayers?
Three quick knocks sounded at the door.
Blue stiffened. Who the hell was awake that early?
“Are you conscious?”
Scrubbing her hands up and down her face, she shook her head.
Sarah. Her best friend had to be beside herself.
“Yeah,” she sighed and rolled onto her back.
The door opened, and her long lean friend with the large, fake breasts tiptoed into the room. Carefully, she pushed the door closed as though she were trying to make the least amount of noise possible.
Sarah slipped into bed beside Blue and pulled the covers up to her chin before rolling on her side.
“You okay?”
Turning her head, Blue arched a brow.
Frowning, her friend lowered her gaze. “It’s so strange. No one is saying anything. There is like this bizarre aura around the clubhouse.”
More sadness crept into Blue’s heart. She didn’t want to be the reason the club got weird. She couldn’t be the one that caused them to change anything. They were just fine the way they were.
“What happened?” her friend asked.
Blue turned her focus to a small bit of cobweb in the ceiling’s corner. “Nothing good.”
She didn’t want to give Sarah all the dirty details. It would only scare her. Or excite her. Who knew? Sarah wasn’t wrapped too tight. It was one reason she and Blue got along so well.
“Just like.” But she had to tell her something. Sarah was a persistent little wench, a loveable one, but still persistent. “You never realize just how dangerous it is to be involved with these guys until stuff happens to you. You can almost ignore it when it’s someone else.”
Her friend’s hand crept across the bed until it found Blue’s. She slipped her fingers between Blue’s and squeezed tight. It felt like a vise around her heart. She loved Sarah. She was an amazing friend.
Sarah scooted closer to Blue on the bed and rested her head on Blue’s shoulder. “In like an hour, we should get breakfast.”
“An hour?” Blue repeated.
Sarah nodded against her. “We have to get a morning beauty nap in.”
Her chest shook as the chuckle made its way up her body. It burst out past her lips. Sure, her head throbbed from it, but it was worth it. She needed that release.
Blue wrapped her friend in a tight hug. “I love you so much.”
“You better.”
Was it a bad idea to drink every blue drink that Sarah knew? But Dash and Ginger had given her the all clear.
Sort of.
They weren’t exactly thrilled with it, but they’d relented.
Anyway, Sarah was a straight up cunt for coming up with that idea.
Wait.
