DJ and King practically run through the door growling. I roll my eyes at them. King opens his mouth to say something when there’s a gunshot and a deafening roar outside. I get a sharp pain in my arm and hear DJ and King both curse.
Without hesitation, I run through the house to find the back door’s open. Once outside, I search for Neo and Jax, unsure which was shot. However, I'm so pissed, I almost miss a bodyfly through the air and a pincher on the other side of the small yard catching him. As I watch the show, Beck pulls up, parks and joins us.
When it registers what’s happening, I do the only logical thing. I burst out laughing. “Boys… stop playing with our prey.”
King and DJ step up on either side of me. “Jax’s scorpion has a thing for traumatizing its victims.”
I wipe a tear from my face. “Jax’s scorpion. Can you please bring Shitface here?” I wait watching as the limp body goes up in the air once more.
“I guess no kiss for Jax’s beast,” I sigh, and watch as the scorpion walks out from a giant Globe Willow carrying an unconscious Stanley. It drops him at my feet. I kick him to be sure he's still alive. He groans.Good not dead… yet.
Fuck stepping over him, I step right on his nut sack. Twisting my heel for good measure. I grin and walk up to Jax. “Hi again. Bring that sexy face down here, big guy.”
It cocks its head and does as I ask. I put a hand on each side of its massive head and plant a kiss right between its eyes. Those liquid depths close as I pull back and I smile as I release his face. He purrs when I run my hand over the bullet wound and it closes up to a slight scar. I blink, then turn to see the rest of the guys standing around the unconscious body of Stanley. They’re in various stages of shock.
“What?” I ask, being a bit lost.
“Oh you um… he purrs?” Neo stammers pointing to Jax who has now shifted to human.
“Don't fucking start.” He walks up to me from behind and places kisses on my neck. “You made my scorpion purr. He's never done that. He's always cranky, but you tamed him.”
“Oh… um ok.” Not sure what to do or say now.
King breaks the tension. “Let's get this asshole home and get some answers.”
Jax lets go of me and walks over to Stanley. He growls and I see his skin ripple.
“No shifting big guy. We need to go.”
He nods and bends over, grabbing Stanley by the hair and dragging him to Kira. He’s not five feet away when the trunk opens. I grin. “That’s my girl.”
Jax throws Stanley in the trunk, which promptly closes and her engine revs to life.
“Coming!” Beck yells and jumps in. They start down the drive.
King walks up, wrapping an arm around my waist. “You know I still have so many questions about that ca…Kira. But let's go home and get our answers from Stanley.”
I grin. Home, hmm I like the idea of a home with these… sexy… dangerous men.
Chapter 31
Jax
On the short ride back to the compound, I can't help but realize for the first time in my entire life, my scorpion is at peace. The drive is almost mindless and I'm lost in thought when I pull up and park in my usual spot in front of the main house on autopilot.
Dismounting my bike, I make my way to the storm doors that lead to the basement. They’re practically hidden behind too small junipers, which is how we like it. After all, it's not a normal basement.
This is my safe place, my sanctuary, or at least up until recently. Now that space is in Ivy’s arms. This is the armory and where if need be, we interrogate people.
I unlock the doors, opening them as the rest join me. King has Stanley slung over his right shoulder as they walk down the stairs. I let everybody enter, then shut the doors behind us, locking them.
The rest of the club know this room is off-limits without special invitation. Unless you want to become the next resident.King walks over to a steel chair bolted to the floor, and unceremoniously drops Stanley in it.
DJ fastens the manacles to his arms and legs. Now we wait for the son of a bitch to wake up, or not. Our mate walks up to Stanley and slaps him right across the face. His head whips around and I see several teeth fall to the ground.
Damn, what a hit. Note to self don't get in a fight with that woman.
I can't help but chuckle and readjust myself. Because damn did I get an instant hard-on from that. Looking back at Stanley, I notice he's starting to come around. I walk up to him and kick the chair a couple times.
