I watch my prey from a safe distance, biding my time before I strike. I’m pulling my pack of cigs from my pocket when someone bumps into me.Who the fuck would dare touch me?When I snap my head around, ready to snarl at the idiot, I don’t see anyone. I wonder for a second if I’m losing my mind until a soft voice pulls my attention down.
“Damn, you’re a big one.” Her awed expression takes me in from head to toe in a flash and I can’t contain the snort.
My heart races as I take her in, knowing in the pit of my soul she’s meant to be mine. Her scent hits my nose and I freeze as the intoxicating mixture of cinnamon and ginger fills my lungs. My scorpion surges to the front of my mind trying to take over. He’s never acted like this before and I know instantly she’s the one. I’ve been both dreaming of and dreading the day I found her.
My mate.
Never thought the only thing that could ever destroy me would come in such a sexy, badass package. shorts and that shirt leave very little to the imagination. And my imagination has never been lacking. I want to look at her forever, but also want to cover her so no other asshole here can see what’s mine.Fuck, she’s gonna keep me on my toes.
She mutters a hasty goodbye and I have to fight to tear my eyes from her as I remember why I’m here. I can’t lose focus now. Not when I almost have him. I’ll find the gorgeous purple-haired vixen when I’m done.
“Right.” I smirk to myself. I plan on having thebestnight. Once I get this fucker away from his goons and knock his ass out, I’m going to find her and properly introduce myself to my mate.
A flash of purple catches my eye and I scowl as I watch my mate approach the VIP section.
What the fuck is she doing?
I can’t stand back and watch as she gets closer and closer to the viper’s nest. Shoving my way through the crowd, I reach her in time for one of Stanley’s bodyguards to leer at my girl.
“Oh really? Gimme a taste.” He grabs her, pulling her flush against him before searing his lips to hers.
A deadly growl rumbles in my throat as I wrench her free from his grip. “Hands off what’s mine!” I snarl before punching the fucker so hard all it takes is one hit for him to crumble to the floor.
Two of his buddies swarm me and my scorpion hisses his pleasure in my head. We’ve both been itching for a fight. I couldn’t think of a better reason for caving in a few faces than protecting my mate. My fist slams into one of their stomachs, knocking the breath out of the first guy before smashing into the other guy’s face, the crunching sound of his nose shattering sends a shot of adrenaline straight to my bloodstream.
With two more assailants on the ground, I finally look up to check on her, only to see her running toward the door, shoving onlookers out of her way as she hightails it out of here. A quick glance tells me Stanley slithered away while I was occupied and now my mate is running from me.
No way. I’m not losing them both in one night.
I chase after her, not willing to let her get away when I don’t even know her name. I burst out the front door into the cool night air to see her standing in the road looking pissed off as a SUV squeals out of the parking lot. She glances around, catching sight of me and I groan at her glowing emerald eyes.
Fuck. Can she get any hotter?
Apparently, she can because the next thing I know, she’s flinging one sexy leg over a glossy crimson Indian Dark Horse. When it roars to life, I snap out of it and run toward my own bike, pulling my keys from my pocket as I do.
She’s running.
Cute, she thinks I’m going to let her get away.
I hate to break it to her, but my hog will outpace her Dark Horse any day. Besides, I know these streets. She won’t be able to outrun me.
Chapter 8
Ivy
What the actual fuck just happened? I berate myself while weaving my way through town. The hairs on my neck stand up and I know I'm being followed, so rather than head home, I head for a secluded area of downtown where I can corner whoever it is and take them out.
The district is abandoned and even the bums stay away from it. It's the perfect place to lure them to and remove the threat. Yes, I've used this spot before. I know all the good ones around town. You never know when they will be needed.
I weave through what little traffic there is in hopes of losing whoever it is. I know it's not that coward Stanley. He's long gone. I’ll find him again, and next time I won't fail.
Rounding the corner I drift my rear tire and slide into the abandoned warehouse’s half-broken-down door. Dropping my kickstand I jump off my bike, remove my gloves, and head to the corner of the building. I don't want to worry about my bike if this gets physical. I won't back down though. If it's a fight he wants. It's going be a short one, and he won't be walking away from it. He cost me my hit. No one gets away with that.
Hearing a Harley, I have a feeling I know who's following me now. It's the big guy I bumped into. The one who made my lady bits dance. “Son of a bitch, not him.” I shake my head. Of all the guys, why him and why now?
Watching and listening I hear his bike cut off and footsteps approach. “Come out, come out, wherever you are,” he sings. “We have introductions to make and things to discuss.”
I stay in the shadows as he enters, but it's no use. The minute his head swings my way I know he sees me. His eyes glow almost cyan. What the fuck is he?
