“Are you serious? You were tricking me while I was crying on you? So rude.”
Grayson laughs and shrugs his shoulder. “Sorry, Mom.” His whole face lights up as he talks like he can’t quite believe he’s doing it. Maybe he has dreams of being able to talk and he thinks this is just one of them.
“How are you feeling, buddy?” Luca asks as he sits on the coffee table in front of him.
“I-I feel okay. Every time I talk it gets easier and feels… not so weird.”
“How is that possible? I assumed since he’d never talked before, his tongue and mouth wouldn’t know how so it’d be like starting as a baby. He sounds more like his age every time he talks,” Luca asks Lila.
“I told you I adjusted it a little.” She shrugs like it’s no big deal. But it is. I’ve known that boy his entire life. He just went from never saying a word to talking like a typical eight-year-old. Only powerful magic could do that.
“Thank you, Lila! I’m so glad I can talk now. It’s been really hard not being able to tell everyone I’m not a baby. I’m very smart. Just because I didn’t talk, doesn’t mean I was dumb,” he grumbles.
“We know that, baby. You’re so smart. I’m so proud of you. Even if you can’t or couldn’t talk. I’m sorry if we treated you like a baby at times. I promise to treat you like a big boy from now on,” Ann reassures him.
“Thank you.” He nods at her. “What happened to the furry?” he directs at Lila.
“The furry wasn’t a regular furry. He’s a shifter.” She nods at Mateo and he waves.
“Thanks for wanting to keep me, little man. Sorry, I’m not the pet you were expecting,” he chuckles.
“Oh,” he sighs and his shoulders slump. “I guess that makes sense with the magic rope thing connecting you to Lila. It would be weird to have an animal for a mate… I think. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds important. And that lady at the aquarium said it means that they’re meant to be together. So that means you’re meant to be with Lila, just like my daddy, and Uncle Harkin and Uncle Jett.”
“You guys are all her mates?” Ann gasps as Lavender shouts, “I knew it!”
Lila’s shoulders hunch up and she points at Grayson. “He can see magic!”
“Grayson! You can see magic? Why have you never told us?” Ann turns back to Gray accusingly.
Lila just threw him right under the bus.Savage.
“Good job getting the attention off you, Bumblebee,” I whisper in her ear.
“I panicked. But he shouldn’t be keeping secrets anyway so, it was for his own good,” she justifies.
“Whatever you say, dear.” I chuckle before kissing the side of her head.
Chapter 32
Lila
Graysonhasschooltomorrow,so he goes home with Ann around dinner time. He’s pretty excited to freak all the kids and teachers out when he starts talking. I have a feeling he’s planning a little mischief for his big reveal. I’m sure Ann will get a frantic phone call at some point. Lav says her goodbyes at the same time, winking as she leaves me alone with my guys. I shake my head at her as I close the door, telling her I won’t be back tonight. When I walk back into the living room, the guys are having a hushed conversation.
“What’s going on in here?” I quirk my brow, flicking my eyes between them.
They all freeze, conversation stopping instantly before as one, they snap their heads in my direction. It’s a little creepy.
“Nothing!” they say in unison. Yeah, I definitely believe that.
“Right. That wasn’t suspicious at all guys,” I chuckle, stopping next to my unofficial seat and smiling when I see Jett sitting in the oversized chair. “You’re in my seat,” I tease.
“I am your seat, Bumblebee,” he corrects before pulling me over the arm of the chair and onto his lap.
I may squeal at the unexpected movement. He wraps one arm behind my back and the other around my legs, pulling me against him. “I’ve got you now,” he growls in my ear, tickling my neck and sending a shiver down my spine.
“What are you going to do with me?” I ask innocently, fluttering my eyelashes.
“I’m so glad you asked.” He smirks at me before capturing my mouth in a heated kiss. His hands tighten on my side and my thigh and my pussy pulses.
