Andrew

Meredithwaiteduntilrightbefore she left on Friday to tell us she was retiring. It was completely out of the blue and took my brother and me by surprise. She’s like a mother to us. She has been our assistant since we started this company ten years ago. I won’t lie. It hurt to have her quit so suddenly, with no warning. She simply told us it was time, and that she had already hired her replacement. She would start Monday, and we had better be nice to her.

She left me with a dossier on her supposed replacement. Lord knows how she got all the information, but I wasn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Trinity Decker. I spent the entire weekend reading all about her. I’ll give Meredith credit… She's very thorough. By the time I went to bed on Sunday, I knew everything there was to know about Miss Trinity. How she liked her coffee… a cup full of cream and sugar and a splash of coffee. What college she went to… Lilacastor University. Her dream job… to make the world a better place any way she could. She was fucking perfect. For this company… for my brother… forme.

I lost track of how much time I spent staring at her picture. She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and I have a funny feeling the pictures don’t do her justice. When I wasn’t learning her life story, I was lost in daydreams of her in my home… in my bed. I wanted nothing more than to wrap her long brown hair around my fist and pull her head back as I devoured her mouth, stealing her breath as I claimed her.

It was the longest weekend of my life, and for once, I couldn’t wait for Monday morning to come. I’ve been at the office since six, waiting for her to get here. I would have been even earlier, but I took my frustrations out on a punching bag at the gym instead.

I’ve been watching the security cameras waiting for her to show, dying to get my first glimpse of her in person. I sit up when I see her step off the elevator, her long legs carrying her across the expanse to the receptionist’s desk. I was right. Photos couldn’t compare to seeing her in the flesh.

She wore a simple black skirt that hugged her curves and ended at her knees. A sheer white shirt with black polka dots, the sleeves of which ended just below her elbows. She was a goddess in disguise. I couldn’t take my eyes off her as she stood there talking to Michelle. Only the ping of my computer could break the spell she had on me.

Ashton:How is she more beautiful than her pictures?

Andrew:No idea. I didn’t think it was possible.

I waited till Sunday to share the information Meredith left me with my brother. I wanted to keep her to myself for just a while. We always said if we ever settled down, it would be with the same woman. But our needs and tastes are so different we’ve never been able to find a woman that could handle both of us. But if Meredith picked her for us, I have high hopes she could be the one.

Ashton:You think she’s going to go for it?

I ignore his question and watch my girl walk across the room to her desk. My computer dings again, and I glance at the new message.

Michelle:Your new assistant is here.

Yeah, like I haven’t been staring at her since she walked off the elevator. I watch as she inspects her desk and boots up her computer. As soon as I see her name on the office chat system, I send her a message. Of course, Meredith connected our accounts, so when my brother or I message her, it’s a group chat. And that fucker is already trying to get her on his side.

She walks into my office, and I lean back in my chair, enjoying the look on her face as she takes in my space. It ends too soon, though, because Ash barges in. She startles when he opens his conjoining door, and I glare as she runs her eyes up and down his body. I shouldn’t be mad that she appears to find him attractive. After all, we are identical twins… but still. I want her to look at me like that.

She turns her head in my direction, and I delight at the slight hitch in her breath. I motion to the chairs in front of me, and she strides over, her long legs eating up the space between us. Just as she reaches my desk, Ash cuts in front of her and pulls out her seat. She smiles at him, and I want to punch him in the face.

I can’t help but lick my bottom lip as she runs her hands down her ass, smoothing her skirt behind her as she takes a seat. She looks up at me, and I hold her caramel eyes hostage with my intent gaze. She swallows a lump in her throat before straightening her spine and crossing her right leg over her left, raising her chin and giving me a determined look. It just makes me want her even more.

“You’ll have to excuse us, Trinity, but your presence is a bit of a shock. Our previous assistant left with no warning. She told us she hired her replacement and that you would start today but gave no other details.” It’s not exactly the truth, but what am I supposed to say? That our previous assistant handpicked her to be ours? That we know everything about her?

“Oh. Meredith made it seem like you would be expecting me.”

“Meredith is a conniving old woman, and she’s lucky we don’t cut her off,” I growl.

Trinity raises her brows, and I could kick myself for being so candid with her. I didn’t mean to say that out loud, but it’s too late to take it back.

“Forgive me for speaking out of turn, Mr. Riggs, but I don’t think that’s any way to talk about a woman who has loyally served you for years. If that’s how you treat devoted employees, I think I’d rather find employment elsewhere.” She scoots back her chair and begins to rise when I all but jump across my desk, grabbing her arm to keep her in place.

“Please, Trinity. You misunderstand.”

She glances at my hand on her arm, then up to my eyes, hers burning into my soul.

“Meredith is like a mother to us. I… I’m taking it rather hard that she just up and left us with no warning. I apologize.”

She must see the sincerity in my eyes because she huffs and sits back down. I lean back behind my desk and brush off my suit jacket before taking my seat as well.

“I don’t understand why she would leave without telling you and why you would consider that to be conniving?”

“Because she left you to fill her role.” She bristles, so I rush on to explain. “Like any good mother figure, she’s been trying to get us to settle down for years. She finally found our kryptonite.”

“What do you mean?” Her eyes bounce back and forth between my brother and me. She still doesn’t understand.

“He’s talking about you, dear. You’reour kryptonite. The one that has the power to bring us to our knees. Meredith knew it upon laying eyes on you. It’s the only reason she hired you and then took off. She knew there was no way either of us could resist you… And she’s right.”

She’s staring at him like he’s speaking a different language, and I’m not sure how to make her understand, but I try to anyway.

“She didn’t hire you to just be our assistant. You’re meant to be so much more than that.”

“Wh-what am I meant to be?” she stutters.

“Ours,” we say in unison.
