“And is that not a passion of yours? To help others? You not only understand why we do what we do, you have the same aspiration. You want to make the world a better place. So do we. We have the means to do something about it, though. With you by our side, we can help even more businesses succeed.”
“Okay, but what does that have to do with making up a position for me or lying and telling me I was going to be an assistant? Because Meredith said and I quote, ‘You may be their personal assistant, but they still have to treat you with respect.’ end quote. Why all the subterfuge?”
“She said that? No… of course she did. The pain in my ass. Because…” I sigh. “Meredith is sneaky.”
“But you knew when I got here yesterday that I wasn’t just your assistant?”
“Of course. Trinity… Meredith may be a pain in my ass, but she’s very thorough in her job. She didn’t just hire you out of the blue. When she found you… however, the hell she did it… she did her research. She wouldn’t have even called you in for an interview until she knew everything there was to know about you. Until she wassureyou were the one.”
“Right. The one. The one you share with your brother.” She scowls at me, but I can see the hint of arousal in her eyes. “And you want me? Why? Because I enjoy helping people?” She rolls her eyes, and I want to kiss the attitude right off her face.
“Not just that. That’s why you’re perfect for our company. Not forus.”
I can tell she wants to ask what makes her perfect for us, but she can’t seem to find the words. I push my seat back and stand, walking around my desk to stand in front of her.
“Ask,” I demand. I know she’s dying to know, but she has to be a big girl and ask for what she wants from me. Ash may give in and let her get away with using those deadly puppy dog eyes, but I won’t.
“What makes me perfect for you?” she whispers as I step closer.
“You’re strong-willed, and don’t let anyone push you around. Yet you’re open-minded and listen to all sides of an argument. It’s what made you such a great debater and how Meredith knew you could handle our strong personalities.”
“How’d she know… Never mind, I don’t wanna know.”
I smirk. She really doesn’t. I continue my explanation. “You’re intelligent, as evidenced by your master's degree and exceptionally good grades throughout your education. We need a partner that can keep up with us, that we can have real conversations with. You’re compassionate. You have the same ideals as us. Recall how you’re perfect for our company. Riggs Capital is a part of us. Our values, our ideology. It’s not just a paycheck for us. Then, of course, there’s your incomparable beauty.” I reach out and caress her cheek, loving the flush that warms her skin beneath my hand.
Her breath hitches, and I take that as my cue to lean in, brushing my lips softly against hers. When she gasps, opening her mouth slightly, I don’t hesitate to slip my tongue inside. She sighs into my mouth, and I step closer, sliding my hand to the back of her head, holding her hostage. Not that there’s any hint she intends to stop the kiss, but fuck, I can’t get enough of her.
She tastes sweet. Like she had sugar for breakfast. Probably the ‘coffee’ she had this morning. I chase after the chocolaty flavor, tangling my tongue with hers. Her moans are music to my ears, and I want to hear them every day for the rest of my life. I slide my other hand up her side, slipping beneath her silk shirt. Fuuuck, I have to see her… feel her. Yanking my head away from her drugging kiss, I stare into her lust-filled eyes.
“I need you. I can’t wait anymore,” I groan.
She licks her lips, her eyes never leaving mine. Finally, she slowly nods her head, and I say a silent praise to God.
