“Thinkshe’sgonnabemad?” Ash asks as he paces my office.
“Would you be?” I arch a brow at him.
That stops him in his tracks. “Yeah… I’d be pretty pissed. Wondering why the subterfuge.”
“Wow. Big word, baby brother.”
“Shut up,” he grumbles as I laugh.
“She should be storming through that door any minute now.” I should be worried about what she’ll say, but honestly, I’m so fucking ready to tell her everything. It was my idea to take things slow and drive her so crazy with lust she’d run to us… but fuck, I don’t want to wait. I’m an impatient bastard when I want something.
Not ten seconds after the words leave my mouth, she comes crashing through the door like a beautiful fucking twister. Her eyes are wild, and she looks like she wants to maim someone. Probably me.
“Somebody had better explain what the fuck is going on!” she screams.
“Mind closing the door so we can keep this conversation at least semi-private?” I glare at her.
She glares right back as she marches back to the door and slams it. “Happy?” she snarks, gesturing to the closed door.
“Ecstatic. Now, what was it you wanted to talk about, kitten?”
Her glare darkens, and a lesser man might fear for his manhood. I am not a lesser man. I just sit there waiting for her to lash out again. She does not disappoint.
“Why in the hell would youtrickme into signing a contract to be the head of some division that probably didn’t even exist until you made it up just to give me a job?!”
“We didn’t.”
“Yes, you fucking did! You know damn well I thought I was being hired to be a personal assistant!”
“We did know that, yes.” I acquiesce.
“So, why did youdoit?”
“As I said…wedidn’t.” She looks like she’s about ready to clobber me, so I go on. “Meredith did. I told you we knew nothing about you until aftershehired you. So, not our fault.”
“What? Why would she do that? That doesn’t make any fucking sense.” Her anger deflates a little, replaced by confusion.
“I told you, she wants us to settle down, but it’s not that easy. We have special… requirements when it comes to the woman we’ll settle down for. Apparently, she’s been actively searching for the perfect woman that checks all of our boxes.”
“Wait… you keep saying woman… not women.” She puts the dots together quickly.
“I do…” I tilt my head, waiting to see if she’ll freak out yet.
“So… you meanonewoman? For both of you? Like… you share her?”
“Exactly like that.” I raise my brow.
“And she…you… think that’sme?”
“We do.”
“And what on earth would make her… you… think that?”
“You know what we do here?”
“Of course, I do.” She rolls her irritated baby blues. “You bankroll the small businesses that are trying to make a real difference in the world. You’re not like any other investors. You’re picky about the businesses you back. Every one of them has had something unique and amazing to offer the world, but no one would take a chance on them until you.”
