Trinity

Istillcan’tbelieveI got the job. I’ve been in a daze ever since my interview. When the kind elderly woman said I was hired, I just about fainted. It’s been a dream of mine to work for Riggs Capital. I mean, it’s not the dream position, but it’s a step in the door. There wouldn’t even be a position for me if Meredith wasn’t retiring. Says she’s too old to be taking care of twins, and it’s someone else’s turn. Honestly, she made it sound like I’m just going to be a babysitter to overgrown man-children. Though, what did I think a personal assistant did if not babysit?

Either way, I’m still excited for the opportunity. This company does some really amazing things. I’m thrilled to be a part of it, even if it is a small, unnoticeable part. I spent this weekend shopping, so I would have something nice to wear. Not that I don’t have clothes, but I need to look professional, and my previous job had a much more lax dress code. There’s no way I could show up to my first day of work wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

I made myself go to sleep at a reasonable hour last night so it wouldn’t kill me to wake up early this morning. I want to make a good first impression, which meansnotshowing up late. Something I might have had problems with in the past… but I’m turning over a new leaf. This is the new, improved Trinity. The Trinity that wakes up, eats breakfast, gets dressed in office-appropriate work clothes, and gets to work on time. She’s my new favorite Trinity as I stroll into the building ten whole minutes early.

I walk up to the reception desk and offer the woman manning it a smile.

“Hi. It’s my first day. I was told to stop here for my badge,” I offer, a little too chipper for this hour if the scowl on her face is anything to go by.

“Name?” she drawls with an uninterested roll of her made-up eyes.

“Trinity.” I decide to keep conversation to a minimum. She’s clearly not a morning person—no need to aggravate her any more than I already have.

She huffs, rolling her head to the side as she flips through the stack of papers on her table. I start to ‌get worried before she finally pulls out an envelope and hands it to me, not even sparing me another look as she goes back to scrolling through her phone. Okay then.

I open the envelope and find a note with my badge.

Good luck, darling. You'll need it. Don't let those boys run roughshod on you. You may be their assistant, but they still have to treat you with respect. Don't be afraid to put them in their place. I'm sorry I can't be there to introduce you, but I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Meredith

I can't help but smile as I slip my badge over my head, then tuck the envelope and note into my purse. I'm not sure what to expect of my new bosses, but from all of Meredith's warnings, I have a feeling they're going to be the grouchy sort. My heels click on the marble floor as I make my way to the elevator. There's already a small group in front of it, so I just stand back and wait. When the doors open, everyone rushes in. I notice no one has pressed my floor yet, so I reach out and press the button for the top floor. I feel eyes on me as the elevator ascends and can’t help but fidget under their intense stares and whispers.

As the doors open on the various floors, I step out of the way and let the others pass until it’s just me in the elevator. I release a breath and let my shoulders slump for just a moment before I straighten my spine as the elevator dings my arrival to my floor. I step out into a huge open space. There’s a desk right across from me with a much friendlier-looking receptionist. To the left is a conference room with glass walls. There’s a long wooden table and expensive-looking chairs surrounding it. To my right are two office doors with a rather large desk between them.Mydesk.

I must look like I’m lost, standing there looking around at the opulent office space because the receptionist is looking at me, biting her lips together in an attempt to hide her smile.

“Can I help you?” she asks with a chuckle.

“Oh! Yes, I’m supposed to start work today. I’m Trinity,” I respond with a grimace.

“Oooh, you’re Meredith’s replacement! She told me about you before she left. So sad she’s gone, but she definitely deserves a peaceful retirement after dealing with those two for so long. They’re already in their offices. I’ll send them a message letting them know you’re here. They’ll want to have a meeting. They always want a meeting.” She rolls her eyes, and I snicker.

“Sure. I’ll just go put my things down and wait for them to call me in.”

“You’ll do ‌fine.” She winks at me as I pass.

When I get to my desk, I pull out my leather office chair and sit down, spinning gleefully for just a moment before I remember I’m supposed to be a professional. I open each drawer of my desk to get acquainted with the layout and put my purse in the big empty bottom drawer. Turning my computer on, I wait for it to boot up and log in. I’m just clicking on things and figuring out the system when my computer pings with a message.

Andrew:Please come to the office on your right. Now.

Ashton:Disregard that message. The meeting is in the office on your left.

Andrew:If you don’t come to my office right now, I’m going to dock your pay $100 for every minute you keep me waiting.

Ashton:If you come to my office, I’ll not only reimburse you anything he docks, I’ll give you a $1,000 bonus.

Andrew:God damn it, Ashton! Both of you get your asses in my office! NOW!

I can already tell they’re going to keep me on my toes. Shaking my head, I get up and stare at the two doors before turning back to my screen.

Trinity:I’m sorry. I’m not sure which office I’m supposed to go to… is it on my right when I’m sitting at my desk? Or when I’m facing the doors? I’d hate to choose the wrong door.

Ashton:Ooooh, she outsmarted you, little brother!

Andrew:Excuse you. It’s big brother, asshole. Trinity… It’s the door with my name on it…

Trinity:Oh! Imagine that!

I smile to myself as I set my computer to sleep so no one can get into it and walk over to the door that clearly says Mr. Andrew Riggs CEO, knocking lightly. He barks a command, and I bite my tongue as I open the door. The room is large with a black leather couch, two matching leather chairs, and a dark wood coffee table, all situated across from the door, mere feet from the floor to ceiling windows. To the right is a door, presumably connecting the two offices. A presumption that is proven correct when it opens and a tall, gorgeous man steps through.

In an effort to not stare at the man… one of my bosses… I turn my head to the left to find an identical man with a stern face sitting behind a classic oak desk. There are two leather chairs in front of him, and he motions to them. I shake myself out of my stupor and make my way to the desk, pausing when Ashton beats me there and pulls out a chair for me. I offer him a grateful smile and take a seat, smoothing my skirt as I do.

I look up into cold slate-gray eyes and, for the first time, ‌rethink taking this job. I hadn’t realized I would work so closely with the embodiment of my darkest fantasy. It should be fine, though. It’s not like either of them would be interested in a curvy girl like me. They’re much more the pole thin models type. I have nothing to worry about. I can be professional.
