They're going to kill you, Cedar smirked with glee.
It's not like I meant for it to happen, I told my wolf.
Doesn't matter. You knocked up your mate before she graduated high school. They're going to be pissed at you. Maybe even more pissed than Emme!
I sighed, knowing he was right.
My boys were going to kill me.
Emmeline had been spitting mad this morning when she told me she was pregnant. I wasn't surprised, but I acted as if I was. When I ran out of condoms during her heat, I tried to tell her that she'd get pregnant, but she was too far gone to listen, and my thinker was pretty much shut off by day three. Her smell grew richer and richer every day since, so I knew she was pregnant.
I didn't tell her for several reasons. One, my mate was a human and had her whole world turned upside when we met a year ago. I wanted to give her as much time as possible to adjust to this new development. Two, she was going to chew me up one side and down the other when she found out. Her temper was legendary. And, three, her grandma Stella was going to skin me alive once she found out. Emmeline told her everything.
Everything.
Grandma knew all about me, from the size of my shoes to the length of my dick.
Not. Even. Joking.
When Emmeline started running for the bathroom every morning, I was pretty sure she knew and didn't want to face it. Yesterday, she finally woman-ed up and went to the doctor's, then told me a couple of hours ago.
Well, yelledit at me a couple of hours ago.
While throwing most of the dishes in the kitchen at me.
Like I said, legendary temper.
You think she would have cooled off overnight, my wolf chortled as he replayed the image of me ducking as a casserole dish sailed right past my head.
Not my Emme,I smirked.Emme don't cool off; Emme stews and stews and stews until the pot boils over.
It certainly did this morning.Cedar helped me look around to see if we'd missed any of the broken pottery in our clean-up effort.I never seen anyone pop off like that.
Let's try real hard to not see it again.
As he laughed at me, I heard my mate's soft footsteps and inhaled the smell of black tea as she joined me in the kitchen.
"Bae, it feels weird to not have alcohol at a party," Emmeline said, walking up to me. "I know I can't have any, but some of the others might want a wine cooler or something."
"Alcohol has no effect on anyone coming to the cook-out," I assured her, "except for Gelo and he'll bring his own if he wants it."
"Oh, yeah. I forgot. Kind of the only bummer about being a werewolf, huh?"
She slid under my arm and laid her head on my chest, and I finally started to relax.
She's back to being soft and cuddly! Yay, me!
"Anykind of shifter, bird, fox, and dragon included. Still, I've heard that if one drank enough, he or she might get buzzed, but I ain't interested in trying." I leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Got to keep on the straight and narrow for my girl and our little pup."
I wasn't sure of the reaction I'd get from saying that. After she railed at me, she'd disappeared into her music room and all I heard for the past two hours was the piano being tortured. She wouldn't even link me, and this was the first she'd talked to me since her explosion.
I half-expected her to push me away and give me the sharp edge of her tongue again for mentioning a pup, but thankfully, she only snuggled her face into the center of my chest and hugged my waist.
"I'm sorry, bae," she whispered so softly, I wouldn't have heard her if I wasn't a shifter. "I know I'm a lot to handle when I lose my temper."
"I can handle you all day long, baby girl. That's why I got two hands." I slid those same two hands around to her tight ass and squeezed. "I really am sorry this happened before you were ready, but I can't say I'm sorry we're having a pup. You are going to be such a good mom, Emme."
"You're going to be a great daddy, too, Rio. I just had to get used to the idea. I don't blame you, by the way. I'm sorry I said it was all your fault. Some of it's mine because I can't take birth control—"
