"Or maybe our wolves are sensing something about what’s happening here," Cole grunted.

"Ormaybewe're about to find ourmate!" Wyatt repeated firmly.

"Well, if we do, don't scare her away!" Cole growled at him.

"Me?I'm not the one with the filthy temper!"

"Yeah, if anyone scares her away, it'll be Alpha Ice!" Ash sassed. "At leasttryto look friendly and not like you're about to reject her."

"I would never reject her," I hissed. "Never!"

"I know that, but she won’t, especially since your stone face gives nothing away."

I stared at him in the rear-view mirror with my most deadpan look until he huffed in annoyance, then I pulled my lips back in a smile.

"How's that?"

"Gruesome, dude!" he wailed. "Never mind! Don't smile at all! Keep your stone face over whateverthatwas."

"Yeah, Mase," Wyatt butted in, "better leave the wooing to us. You can pack her things and load them in the car or something."

Rolling my eyes, I left them to their delusional thoughts.

Ten minutes later, we were parked outside the alpha house of Green River. Getting out, we all stretched, a little stiff after four hours of sitting, and I watched as someone darted inside while another shifter stood on the porch and waited for us.

As we got closer, I could smell the man’s beta blood.

"Beta Roy McGinnis?" I asked as I led my squad up the walk.

He nodded, came down the steps, and held out his hand, which I took. I felt his anxiety and tension the second I put my hand in his.

Whatever’s happening here, the beta knows all about it.

"I'm Alpha Mason Price," I told him as we shook. "These are my brothers, Alpha Cole Barlow, Alpha Jayden Carson, Alpha Ash Mitchell, and Alpha Wyatt Black."

"Welcome to Green River."

I noted the red lines in the beta's guarded eyes and the dark bags under them.

Knows about it and hates it, Garnet confirmed.

"Beta Roy," I began only to be cut off when the breeze changed and the most alluring scent in the world floated out from the open front door.

Mate!Garnet howled.

Do you smell that?Wyatt yelped as Ash started bouncing up and down on his toes.

Chocolate chip cookies!Cole murmured.

Oh my Goddess,Jay breathed.

"Beta, who is in the house beside your alpha?" I leapt up the porch steps.

"She's why you're here—"

Before he could say more, a pain-laden scream caught all of our attention, and I knew down to my bones that it was our mate.

Shoving the beta aside, I ran ahead, ignoring all the protocols an alpha should follow when visiting another alpha’s house.
