After the art show, we went home and swapped our fancy clothes for shorts and t-shirts. Then we escorted the king and queen to the gathering place, which was a large clearing in the woods. A pile of huge boulders hunched along the far side and a calm stream trickled out from under them.
"That's why my pack is called Great Rocks," I told Posy, pointing to the big boulders. "And Wyatt's pack, River Rapids, is named after this little creek. It grows larger and rougher as it crosses into his territory and has some pretty serious rapids before it drains into a lake in Earthshine."
"Which is Mason's territory, right?" When I nodded, she said, "I'd love a tour of the individual packs' highlights sometimes. Not all five at once, of course, but I want to learn at least a little bit about each of them."
"Why?" Ash rested his elbow on top of her head until she dug her fingers into his side. Giggling, he jumped back. "They'll all disappear as soon as we have a pup."
"I know, but it's important to remember our history," she told him.
"Well said, sweetness." Jay smiled brightly. "I'd be happy to show you some maps and photos and things at the alpha library, too."
"Oh! That reminds me!" Posy clasped her hands under her chin and made her eyes big as she looked up at Jay.
Good luck resisting whatever she wants, I smirked.
I can be strong if I have to be,he argued.
Sure you can, the rest of us chuckled.
"I think you should interview Bram for the librarian position," Posy was telling him. "Not only is he a great student, he wants to be a librarian. Plus, that beautiful apartment on the top floor would be perfect for him and Reuben!"
The new couple were currently staying at the smaller of our two guest houses while they tried to decide on where to live. Bram wasn't comfortable at Reuben's parents' place with Elijah there, and Reuben refused to allow his mate to stay another day at the Merriweather residence. Posy had worried about that, especially after she told us Bram said that he and his mother didn't get along because she resented him being an omega. We promised we'd follow up on it, but the little dude had Rube now, and there was no way the gamma was going to let anything happen to his mate.
"I'll interview him tomorrow," Jay told her.
"And it will help Bram pay for college!" she squealed with happiness and threw her arms around his waist to squeeze him tight. "Thank you!"
"Hey, I didn't hire him yet!" he laughed.
"You will, though."
"Probably," he agreed and hugged her back. "I can't see why itwouldn'twork out, to be honest."
Good job being strong and resisting her, Wyatt teased.
"Posy, we have a surprise foryoutonight, too." I tuned out Jay's sarcastic response as my sharp ears picked up a familiar sound in the distance. "We found a way for Lark to participate in the run."
"Yeah! My little doll is going to love this!" Ash jumped up and down in his eagerness.
"What is it? Tell me!"
"Nope," Mase said before I could. "Just likeyoudidn't tellusthe king and queen were coming tonight."
He gave her that blank, hard-eyed look he used when he was trying to intimidate someone, and I frowned.
Dude, you're going to scare her.
You don't know her very well if you think that, he snorted.
"Oh. Um, about that. Hahaha," she tittered and clenched the hem of his shirt in her fists as she stared up at him. "I wasn't sure if they could make it and didn't want to get anyone's hopes up only to have them cancel."
"You should have told—"
She whipped his shirt up, zerberted his belly button, and was completely unprepared when he doubled over laughing.
We all were.
I forgot he was ticklish, I linked my brothers.
