"We'll do it," Zayne and Zayden offered.
"Thanks, mates," Beatrix smiled at each of them, "but we wantthatone."
Surprisingly enough, she pointed to me, and Quartz stirred with interest.
"Mase and I are more powerful," Cole said, "and Jay's younger than us. Let one of us do it."
"Youaremore powerful, but his wolf has an unlimited supply of something we need. Yours doesn't." Maria turned and gave me a sweet smile.
"And what's that?" I questioned, suspicious about what they wanted from Quartz.
"Unbothered brutality."

"I don't like this," I muttered.
"Me, either," Cole said from beside me.
We both felt the same way, that it should be one of us at risk and not our little brother. It was ingrained in us to protect the younger ones.
The girls and Jay stood in a circle around Leo Halder's limp form where it lay on the grass in the front yard. The witches had described how they'd draw on Quartz's unlimited supply of "unbothered brutality" to literally rip the demon out of Halder's soul, then Angelo would send it back to the infernal plane.
With a sigh, I crossed my arms over my chest and frowned. Angelo stood on my other side, a sleek black rifle in his hands and a pair of pistols snug in holsters under his arms.
"What are we waiting for?" I asked him.
"High noon. Sunlight is lethal to infernal creatures," he explained. "If it somehow escapes the circle and I miss it, the sunlight will slow it down and eventually kill it."
As we waited for the right moment, I watched Jay. He flexed his fingers and shuffled his feet a few times.
He's nervous,Cole linked me.
We all are. We've never dealt with demons before,I told him.Or with any magic other than moon.
We're making an alliance with Angelo,he said. In case this happens again, I want a combat expert in the occult on hand.
I nodded. Having Ariel in the pack was going to come in handy in the future. Not only would we benefit fromhermagic and knowledge, but also Angelo's.
I wonder how he's going to deal with her and Beatrix living so far away from him, I replied.Same with Maria and Sara.
The Moon Goddess knows best,Garnet told us before Cole could reply. The flock and the pack were obviously always destined to entwine.
"What should the rest of us do?" Ash interrupted our silent conversation.
"Wait and watch," Angelo said with a shrug. "Thepiccoli uccelli(little birds) will do their job, then I'll do mine. You stay out of it since none of you know what you're doing."
"Alpha Jayden, don't let go of us," Sara said as she took one of his hands and Ariel the other. "No matter what."
"I won't let go."
"It's important." She gave him a stern look. "If you do, we could die or be sucked into the infernal plane with the creature."
"I won't let go," he repeated, Quartz underscoring his voice a little and taking it to a darker timbre.
Sara nodded, and she and Ariel joined hands with the other two witches to make a circle around Halder. As they began to chant, the heavy scent of magic stung my nostrils.
