"Speak!" she demanded.

"Woof!"

Gisela snickered, but Luke clapped a hand on my shoulder.

"Not wise, man. Trust me. Antagonizing her when she's already furious leads to nothing but regret."

"I didn't mean to," I said, holding up both hands. "It just came out."

"Ranger, explain why my mate is hurting his friend!" Lilah's eyes flashed with fire.

"He'snothurting him," I sighed. "He'shelpinghim."

Beta Tyler James

As we all rushed into the house, Matthew deliberately kept in front of me, which was frustrating. How was I supposed to do my job from behind his back?

Is he trying to make me look bad in an emergency?

Him scared,River said in his soft baby voice.Him scared Quartz hurt Ty.

I rolled my eyes privately. I was thelastperson Matthew Rose would be worried about getting hurt.

Okay, Riv. Now you hush so I can focus. We need to find the luna and take her to safety.

Me help find luna! Me good boy!

Yep. You sure are.

As panicked and upset as I might be, I still had to use a gentle tone and kind words. If I got angry or harsh with him, or let him see my panic, he would have a bad reaction, and I couldn't afford that right now.

We all burst into the kitchen, and Matthew, Emerson and Crew fanned out to loosely surround the alphas. I followed the screams into the dining room and found the luna hiding under the table. She had her knees drawn up to her chest and her arms over her head as she rocked back and forth and screamed.

Having a wolf like mine was not something I'd wish on my worst enemy, but it sure had taught me a lot, and I intended to put that knowledge to good use to help my luna.

I crawled under there with her and gave her a heads up on everything before I did it.

"Luna Posy, it's Tyler. I know you're upset and scared, and I'm here to help you. I'm going to put one arm around your back and one under your knees. I know you may not like that, but it's going to happen."

She didn't respond, and I didn't expect her to. I simply moved into position.

"I'm going to slide you out from under the table, then I'm going to pick you up. I won't drop you. You can trust me."

I had no idea if she heard me, but I hoped she did and could find comfort in a calm voice.

Riv usually did.

I hauled her out from under the table, then stood and reached down for her. She didn't fight me, for which I was thankful, and I lifted her up easily. She couldn't weigh even a hundred pounds, and carrying her tiny body was like carrying the kids at the O off to bed when they fell asleep over their dinner.

"I'm going to take you to your special room, luna," I murmured in her ear.

The second I had her up in my arms, her screams stopped, but little whines and whimpers took their place.

Grimacing at my luna's pain, I hustled us out of there and took the stairs two at a time.
