Some of that feeling must have slipped into our mate bond because she reached up and laid both hands, one on top of the other, over my heart.

"I love you, Ash," she said. "I am right here and I always will be."

I bent down and kissed her forehead.

"Hey, since we're alone right now and it's calm and everything, Quartz would like to come out for a second."

We both looked over at Jay, who was scratching the back of his neck.

"He would like to hug you goodbye, Posy, if that's okay with you."

"Of course!" Her face brightened with a sunshine smile.

Is Quartz her favorite?I linked Jay with a grin.I think she loves him the most out of all of us.

What's not to love?Quartz himself snorted, and I realized Jay had already given him the reins.But our mate does not play favorites. She loves us all, and she loves us all unconditionally.

I nodded and moved away slowly enough to show him I was no threat. Going to the other side of the kitchen island, I dried the last few glasses as I thought about what he'd said.Didshe love us unconditionally? She hadn't seen any of us at our worst yet, or even our negative sides.

Well, maybe glimpses, I admitted.Still, it can't be unconditional if she doesn't know every part of us, can it?

Ashy, you think too much. Sid rolled his eyes, which made me giggle.

I was putting the glasses I'd dried into the cupboard when Wyatt jogged back into the kitchen.

"All right," he said. "We are set to go. I just need one last kiss from our girl."

I didn't realize what he was doing until he was right behind Quartz, who held Posy like she was his lifeline.

"Wyatt, stop!" I yelled in a panic. "That's not—"

Too late.

I watched in horror as his hand landed on what he thought was Jay's shoulder and yanked him away from our mate.

Then all hell broke loose.

When Ash screamed,Code Q!, through the alpha link, I didn't waste any time asking questions and took off for the house at a dead run.

"Quartz is loose and pissed!" I yelled for the betas, then linked the whole pack to stay away from the alpha house until further notice.

Posy is in the kitchen with him!Garnet howled.

"Betas," I hollered, "keep Posy away from him, no matter what she says!"

"Tyler," Matthew shouted, "take the luna to her special room and keep her there until you hear otherwise."

"On it."

We could hear Posy's screams, Ash's shouts, and Quartz's growls getting louder, and we all put on an extra burst of speed, not that we weren't hurrying before. Leaping up the front porch steps, I flung open the door and raced inside, leaving the betas to follow.

I made it to the kitchen and found Quartz rocketing toward Wyatt where he lay in a still and silent heap on the floor. Red trailed down the wall behind him in a smear that led to the back of his head.

Ash, who was half-shifted, crouched in front of Wyatt, ready to take on Quartz. I would have given them even odds if Sid were enraged, but he wasn’t and despite Ash’s great strength and size, he alone wouldn’t be a match for the empty-eyed deathbringer stalking toward Wyatt.
