"Of course it is." I bit my lip, then decided to go for it. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Anything, angel."

"Do you know that Mr. Price has been verbally abusing Mason? And do you know what he said about me?"

"I didn't until tonight. Papa told me everything. I promise you, Posy, if I had known..." She broke off and shook her head. "Royal isn't a bad man, and he would never raise his hand to you. He was always strict with Mase, but at some point he crossed the line, and he knows it, just as he knows he's going to have to work hard to earn Mase's forgiveness and rebuild their relationship."

Her eyes teared up and her bottom lip trembled. I could only imagine the hurt she was feeling after finding out the mate she loved was hurting their child. Wrapping my arms around her waist, I squeezed her in a tight hug.

"He also knows he hurt your feelings and scared you," she murmured. "Don't be surprised if he shows up tomorrow with a gift and profuse apologies."

I blinked. I didn't know the word profuse, but I got the idea. An image popped into my mind of the scary former alpha on his knees with a bouquet of flowers, and a little giggle slipped out.

"That's better, angel."

I came downstairs to hear bickering in the kitchen and wondered what the chaos twins were up to.

"No, wait. The recipe says a teaspoon, not a tablespoon."

"Does it matter that much?"

"Yes,Ash-hole, it does!"

"You know I hate it when you call me that, dickhead!"

"Guys, guys, you're losing focus."

Ah, my poor Jayden. The lone voice of reason.

"Sorry. I just want them to be perfect for our girl."

"Then follow the recipe!"

"Wyatt," I said as I walked into the kitchen, "why are you raising your voice? Ash and Jay have perfectly fine hearing."

"Sorry," Wyatt muttered. "Is she okay?"

"She's fine. She's changing into her PJs, then she'll be down." I went over to see what they were making. "Oh! Chocolate chip cookies!"

"Yep!" Ash beamed, bouncing on his toes. "For Posy. We wanted to make hot chocolate, too, but we're out of the instant stuff and none of us know how to make it from scratch."

"Recipes are precise for a reason. You don't want too much salt in your cookies, or that's all you'll taste," I explained. "How about you guys finish the cookies and I'll whip up some hot chocolate?"

They agreed, and Ash and Wyatt went back to work under Jay's watchful eye.

"Where are the others?" I asked while gathering my supplies.

"Cole let Topaz out for a run to blow off some steam," Ash said, "and Mase is in the home office doing paperwork, AKA hiding."

"He'll come out when Posy comes down," I said. "He needed some time and space, too."

"We didn't tell you because we knew it would hurt you," Jay said out of the blue.

"And Mase asked us not to," Wyatt chimed in. "He said he could handle it, and we stupidly believed him. We should have said something. I feel like a coward for staying silent."
