"You are."
"Am not. You're just enormous."
"You're short, Posy," Wyatt said.
"You are." Ash nodded with solemn eyes.
"Nuh-uh.Youdon't get to say anything." I pointed at Ash and ignored Wyatt. "You know you're not normal.Iam normal. Look at Maria. She's my height."
"She's three inches taller than you, sweetness," Jayden unhelpfully pointed out.
I frowned. I couldn't do anything about my height.
"It's okay, Posy." Wyatt gave me a smile. "We love you no matter how tall or short you are."
I returned his smile as Cole rubbed his hand up and down my back.
After the witches and the Maxwell twins left, the queen said she wanted to go to her house to pack some things. The king directed Luke and Gisela to go with her, and they left, too.
The rest of us moved to the living room, where King Julian brought up the issue of Leo Halder.
"Ranger and Junia will be returning with the Tall Pines pack by evening, and those who were at Five Fangs are already on their way. I need to interrogate him and make a decision today."
I was sharing a love seat with Mason, who had me tucked under his arm and pressed into his side. I squiggled my fingers into his ribs to get his attention, and he cut his eyes down at me.
"Are the gammas coming with the Tall Pines wolves?" I asked.
"No, they're in charge of the pack until we send the betas home later today."
"Then the betas will be in charge until you return?" When he nodded, I asked, "How are the Tall Pines wolves getting here?"
"The gammas set them up with some of our pack vehicles."
"Oh." I stretched up to kiss his jaw. "Thank you for explaining."
He smiled, which made me happy, and I tuned back into the conversation to hear Wyatt ask a question I'd wondered, too.
"Do you think he's innocent?"
"How innocent can you be if you agree to host a demon?" King Julian snorted.
"A demon can force itself into someone's soul through trickery and coercion," Angelo said. "Their hosts were unwillingly or unwittingly and never had a choice."
"I want to throw him in my dungeon and be done with it," the king grunted.
"You may need to defer this decision to someone else, wolf king."
"IknowI'm too close to the issue. So you are. Same with Ranger, the Maxwells, and probably these betas now that they're mated to the witches." King Julian studied each of my mates' faces. "What about you guys? Can any of you be unbiased?"
"After what I saw in the basement?" Cole shook his head slowly. "Don't think so."
"And what happened to Reuben isn't something I can forget," Wyatt muttered.
"Seeing the condition of those pups got Sid all worked up," Ash admitted. "He and I are so in sync that separating his emotions from mine is almost impossible. I could try, but I can't guarantee any degree of objectivity."
"Mase?" The king raised his eyebrows.
Mason was silent for several long minutes as he thought, then he shook his head.
