"Since we don't hear any sounds of a fight," Ash said, "I think everyone might still be alive."

"Hmm. Wonder if someone tried to take Wyatt from him?" I guessed.

When we made it downstairs, I found I was partially right. After he woke up, Jay had gone looking for Wyatt and found him sacked out in the living room with Mase. He'd gotten Wyatt awake because Quartz wanted to apologize to Granite and Wyatt.

Not in front of anyone, though. That's not how Q rolled.

So Jay had taken Wyatt to the kitchen to talk, and Mase had freaked out when he woke up without his baby in his arms.

"Now that we're all awake," King Julian paused to glare at Mase, who only raised an eyebrow, "I think it's a good time for the witches to share some knowledge with us. Ariel, I trusted you when you told me not to worry about the lesser demon Nyx scented, but I know it's connected to what Cole and I found in the basement."

"Isaidwe needed to talk to you about what you have locked up at the prison," Maria said.

"What—"

"Um, wait." Cutting the king off, Wyatt raised his hand as if he were back in school. "I'm going to need coffee first.Lotsof coffee."

"And maybe some clothes, too?" Angelo scoffed, then glared at Mase. "You as well. Why are you two running around in just boxers, anyway? There are ladies present."

"Oh, we don't mind the show." Sara rested her chin on her hand as her eyes ran up and down Mase's body.

"Private property signs are all over us," Wyatt waved his hand between him and Mase. "Keep your hungry eyes off, witch."

"Honey, if you're putting perfection on display," she eyed his cut chest and abs with a smirk, "I'm going to admire it."

Wyatt opened his mouth to retort, probably crudely, but a blushing Mase grabbed his elbow and pulled him toward the stairs.

"He seems better," I murmured to Jay as they disappeared up the stairs.

"He, Granite, and Quartz had a good talk. Quartz hated knowing he caused Wyatt to go wolfy."

More like, youhated it and Quartz hated that you were upset, I thought to myself.

But whatever worked to clear the air between them. That was all that mattered.

"What we found in the basement," Cole paused and swallowed, then shook his head. "Wolves don't act like that."

We sat around the table after a simple breakfast of cereal and fruit - and Wyatt's precious coffee. After last night, weallneeded a couple of cups, and I wasn't complaining about how strong he'd made it.

"What do you mean?" I asked Cole.

"There were half-mauled body parts and others without a mark on them. All were in various stages of decomposing, some as fresh as a couple of days and others so old, they were shriveled mummies."

"No intestines or internal organs anywhere," the king picked up. "No eyes, either. Blood coated the floor and splattered up the walls. I'd estimate about seven or eight total bodies' worth of parts."

Hmm. Cole's right,Quartz murmured. No wolf, not even rogues or feral ones, waste good meat like that.

I grimaced at the 'good meat' comment, but admitted he was right.

"Julian, after Ariel told me that you smelled a lesser demon, I looked through the basement," Angelo said. "I didn't see any evidence of diabolical activity or rituals that would have summoned any kind of demon to this plane. I think it just used the basement as its pantry and playground."

"So there's a lesser demon working with the wolves here." The king crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back in his chair. "How do we find it?"

"I saw it when we arrived," Maria said.
