Mason's eyes locked with mine, and I saw both amusement and admiration in his gaze. It made me want to smile, but I was stiff and nervous and couldn't. As if he knew that, he stood and turned his eyes back to his father.
"If I am such a disappointment, blame yourself." He shrugged. "Your cruel words shaped me into what I am. And now, as my mate said, it's time for you to leave."
Mr. Price also stood, and Mason walked around him to loop an arm around my waist.
"I trust you can see yourself out, Mr. Price," he said, then tugged me along with him.
"We're just going to leave him in your office?" I asked.
"Yep. Don't worry. He'll leave when he realizes I'm not coming back."
As soon as we got to our bedroom, Mason picked me up by the back of my thighs, then buried his face in my throat.
"Thanks for the rescue, little flower," he murmured against my skin. "And I'm sorry if I scared you again."
"I'm not scared." I stroked his hair back from his forehead. "You did the right thing."
He inhaled deeply and slowly, then let it out in an explosive rush that ended in a vulnerable little whine, something Ineverthought I'd hear from my highly controlled mate.
"What's wrong with me, Posy?" he whimpered. "Why can't he love me the way a father should?"
He sounded so broken, and my chest burned. How dare his own father hurt him like this!
"There isnothingwrong with you!" I gripped the side of his head and pulled his head up so I could make eye contact with him. "I don't know why some people are so cruel and toxic, but I want you to listen to me. There isnothingwrong with you. Can you hear me? You are a loving, kind, considerate man, and I love you so, so much!"
Tears flooded his gray eyes. The iceman was melting, and I could finally see the deep chasm of hurt he hid under all the frost.
As I dropped little kisses everywhere I could reach, I opened my link with the rest of my mates, all the betas, and all the gammas.
Mason is taking the rest of the day off.
Wait. He's supposed to—
He's taking off,I interrupted Matthew.Sort it out. End of.
Then I closed all the links except for my mates.
You sound just like Mase, Ash chuckled. Is he rubbing off on you?
What happened?Cole asked the more practical question, which I answered.
His father was the appointment.
Oh, hell. Do you need one of us to come home?Jayden wanted to know.
Um, no, but what are some things he likes to do? He needs some de-stress time.
Well, he could bend you over the desk and bury himself balls-deep in—
WYATT!Three voices shouted.
My face burned red, but my core tingled in anticipation. Even though it was embarrassing to hear him say it, the thought made my panties damp.
Yeah, you're right,Wyatt said with a grin.Better wait until I get home for that, cutie!
Wyatt,Cole warned.
Try a video game,Jayden suggested. He hasn't played in a long time, but he used to like it a lot.
