Zayden and Zayne surprised us by asking to join Five Fangs so that Beatrix could stay with her flock. We explained we had no beta positions open, but they weren't interested in being betas, despite their blood. They planned to be Angelo's apprentices when they weren't busy with whatever pack jobs we assigned them.
When the del Vecchios realized they'd all be able to stay near each other, the witches immediately started the process to move their business. Mase told them about the empty lot next to Roger's Diner that they could have for a song, and Cole added that the pack had its own construction crew that would build a shop to their specifications.
I offered to contact a company to pack their personal belongings and their business, and Beatrix said she and her mates would go supervise the move, as the twins had no job in our pack yet. The betas had to return and take charge of Five Fangs until my brothers and I were done here; since none of their mates wanted to be separated from them, it was the perfect solution.
King Julian was going to install Ranger and Junia as alpha and luna after lunch, then we'd be free to go home, too.
As the betas and their mates got ready to leave, a little hiccup appeared when no one knew what to do with Leo.
And yes, I was starting to think of him as Leo and not 'Halder' or 'the bastard,' despite Quartz's grumbling.
Mase had texted the betas a list of properties available in Five Fangs' territory, and they planned to pick out their homes after they returned. That's when we got stuck on the Leo issue.
My brothers and I knew that, if Posy had her way, he'd move into the alpha house, and that wassonot happening.
"I don't think the pack house would be a good idea," Tyler spoke up, "so what about the O? There's loads of room, and I'd be there to keep an eye on things."
He'd be around pups who are already vulnerable, Cole linked Mase and me.
He didn't willingly hurt the pups here,I pointed out.
Even knowing that, Sid would have a fit.
Conceding the point, I told Ty that wouldn't work.
Emerson and Angelo, who'd been having their own silent conversation, nodded at each other, then Em raised his hand like an overgrown schoolboy.
"Yeah, Em?" Mase gave him the floor.
"He can stay with us, at least at first. You know which house I'd like. It has dozens of rooms and loads of wilderness around it for running and de-stressing."
And Angelo would be there to end him if he relapses into ... bad habits, Cole linked, making me frown.
We're supposed to be giving him a second chance, I reminded him.
And I'm onboard with that. With certain precautions in place should things go sideways.
I rolled my eyes, but let it go. He'd slip up soon enough, and Posy would find out that he held a grudge against Leo. By the time she sorted him out, he'd be singing a different tune.
"Are either of you interested in that property?" Mase asked Tristan and Matthew.
"Which one is it, Em?" Tyler asked as Tristan and Matthew consulted their mates.
"That old Victorian monstrosity near the Moonset-Dark Woods border."
Tyler nodded, and Matthew and Tristan said Em was welcome to it.
"Great. That's settled." Mase nodded. "It may need some work, so let us know if you want a hand. We'll send painters around once you're ready for them. If I remember right, the outside needs a fresh coat. Get together with McFlynn about what colors you want."
"Thank you, alpha."
"Can we tour the properties before we decide?" Beatrix asked, looking from Emerson to us.
"Of course." I smiled and clapped a hand on Emerson's shoulder. "Em just knows that house. He's been in love with it since he first saw it."
"You're going to love it, too." Emerson squeezed Angelo's hand.
I chuckled. The poor guy looked dazzled by Emerson's brilliant grin, which was a rare enough sight, and I hoped Angelo was wise enough to treasure it.
