"She shifted. Beta Gisela, could you please help me dress her?"
"Of course, luna. And just Gisela is fine."
"Thank you. And call me Posy." I smiled as she came into the room and closed the door after her. "There is no need for titles among friends."
"Thank you." She smiled back.
I looked around and saw someone had grabbed Lilah’s clothing and shoes from the bathroom at the diner. The outfit wouldn’t be very comfortable with her injuries, though. After a minute’s thought, I stuck my head out the door and found Cole chatting with Luke.
"What do you need, honey?" Cole asked.
"Do you know where the bags are from our shopping trip today? We bought Lilah some pajamas that will be better for her right now," I explained.
"They should all be in there. Try the closet. I think that’s where Peri said she and the twins put them. If not, let me know and I’ll link her."
I looked over my shoulder at Gisela. She nodded and opened the closet door, then gave me a thumbs up.
"Found them," I turned back to Cole and smiled up at him. "Why don’t you and Luke take a break? Get a snack and check in with the others or something? Gisela and I got this."
Luke looked conflicted for a second, but Cole grabbed his shoulder and pulled him along.
"We’re only going downstairs, buddy. And theking’sbeta is with her. You couldn’t ask for a better guard."
"All right," Luke agreed, clearly reluctant to leave.
Cole looked at me and rolled his eyes, and I smiled back.
Closing the door, I turned back to find Gisela had pulled out a t-shirt nightie and pair of undies.
"We don’t need to torture her with a bra, right?" she asked.
"Goddess, no."
As we approached the bed, my stomach turned to see the extent of her injuries. From the bruises and broken bones at her alpha’s hands to the tears in her skin from his wolves' attack today, her body was a wreck.
"Why isn’t her wolf healing her?" Gisela frowned.
"She’s asleep. Exhausted. Healing daily beatings takes it out of a wolf."I should know."At least the bleeding has stopped. Do you think we should try to clean some of these wounds? And I don’t even know what to do about her ribs. They were brokenbeforethat wolf tackled us in the field."
"I think sleep is the best thing for her right now. When she wakes up, we can help her treat her injuries."
I nodded in agreement, and we gently wrestled Lilah into the soft clothing. She grimaced a few times, but never woke up.
"I hope the king is quick to punish Alpha Halder," I muttered at one point.
"The king is going tokillAlpha Halder." Gisela assured me. "Most likely over a long period of time and in the most painful way possible. That is, if my mate doesn’t beat him to it."
Can't wait to see Lilah face when she find out she the king's mate,Lark huffed with amusement. Luke probably loving this. Lilah for sure going to be safe and happy forever now, and he never have to be apart from her.
I hadn’t thought of that.
I also hadn’t thought much about Luke’s situation in general.
"I should have bought him some clothes and undies and shoes, too, today," I chided myself aloud. "He probably wanted to look good for you."
"Luke? Nah, he’s a simple guy. Your mates gave him some things, and Alpha Cole wears the same size shoes, so he’s good to go. I’m sure he’d appreciate the thought and your kindness, but he doesn’t need much to be happy."
Her lips twitched into a confident smirk as we settled Lilah against the pillows and drew the sheet over her.
