Page 80 of Mates: Posy

"Alphas Wyatt and Ash graduated in June," Callie said, "so they can tell you what it's like for shifters at a human school."

"Actually, I don't think their perspective would be a good one," Peri pointed out. "Our male counterparts in general have it far easier than we do at school. They're buff and athletic naturally, so they fit in and are automatically popular. As for my brothers, they have that alpha aura that even the humans pick up on. I don't think they've ever had to deal with the issues we have."

"What issues exactly?" I asked.

"The girls, like those ones from yesterday, pick at us and we can't really do anything about it," Callie explained. "Since we're so much stronger than they are, we could do some major damage if we get into a physical fight. And if we lose control and wolf out, well, that would be a disaster, wouldn't it?"

"So we have to act submissive or avoid the mean girls," Keeley said, "so they won't make our lives miserable. They can get vicious."

"What are some things they've done?" Lilah wanted to know.

"Steal or destroy your gym clothes, or your regular ones so you're stuck wearing your gym gear all day. Or take your towel while you're showering after gym." Keeley picked at her nails and didn't look up.

"Once, they tore my shirt off because it was exactly like one they were wearing and I didn't have permission to 'copy' them." Callie rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I had a lot of trouble controlling my wolf after they did that and had to leave school early. Of course, they thought that meant they'd won and, according to gossip the next day, I'd left crying hysterically."

I was horrified.

Maybe my brothers pulling me out of school wasn't such a bad thing, after all.

I looked over at Lilah and saw her jaw had dropped.

"Did you have humans at your high school?" I asked her.

"No, and nothing like any of this ever occurred."

I was determined now to bring this up with the guys. Even if it was for a small population, I didn't see a reason why Five Fangs couldn't have its own secondary schools.

Surely there are enough educated wolves in the second-largest pack in the United States to act as teachers. Other than a building, that's all a shifter school would need.

Lost in thought about what to name the new middle and high schools, I almost missed it when Lilah suddenly sat ramrod straight in her chair.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Tall Pines," she whimpered and closed her eyes. "I smell Tall Pines wolves."

The betas weren't reacting to anything, although Crew's eyes were fogged over as he linked with someone, so I swiveled to peer out the big windows.

I didn't see anything. No cars other than ours in the parking lot. No strangers. No wolves.

Maybe she's wrong—

Two black mini buses bounced into the parking lot, and I could see they were both packed with bodies.

I spun back to Lilah and saw her face had turned white as milk.

"They're coming for me," she whispered. "I don't want to go back. I'd rather die than go back to him."

Emerson was beside me in a heartbeat.

"Luna, go to the bathroom and lock yourself in," he commanded. "The rest of you are her last-ditch guards. Keep her alive as best you can."

"Yes, beta," the twins chorused.

We scurried off with Peri in the lead and piled into the ladies' room. Trembling, I drew my shoulders up toward my ears and curled forward with my arms around my stomach.

I want my mates!I screamed inside my head.

No panic,Lark soothed me.They on the way. Be strong, Posy.
