Page 67 of Mates: Posy

Yanking my head back, he glared at me with rage-filled eyes, spit flying from his mouth and hitting my cheek. My lip curled up in disgust.

"Youwillbe my chosen mate and take your mother’s place in my bed."

"No," I gasped. "I’ll kill myself first."

With a growl, he began to kick me viciously, and my screams drowned out the sickening sound of bones breaking.

The last thing I saw was his giant boot heading for my face…

"Posy. You’re safe. Look at me. You’re safe."

Someone was screaming, and it took a few seconds for me to realize it was me. I snapped my mouth shut and my vision cleared enough for me to see Mason kneeling in front of me. Not even caring if I got punished for it, I launched myself at him and wrapped my arms around his neck.

"Don’t let him hurt me! I’ll be good, I promise! I’ll do anything you want! Just please don’t let him hurt me anymore!"

I sobbed so hysterically, he probably couldn’t understand a word of it.

"Shh, baby. Shh. You’re safe. You’re with your mates. He’ll never touch you again."

One of Mason’s hands ran up and down my back while the other cradled my head against his chest. The smell of a campfire comforted me and helped me calm down.

"I’m going to pick you up, Posy."

Getting to his feet, he moved one arm under my bum to support my weight, and I wrapped my legs around his torso, wishing I could crawl into his skin. Swaying gently, he massaged my neck and kissed my head until my breathing evened out and I stopped quaking.

The scents of my other mates surrounded me, but, mortified, I couldn’t lift my face from his neck.

"I’m sorry," I hiccuped.

"No one’s mad at you, honey," Cole said from my left. "No one’s upset with you. We all understand."

"Remember when we were talking about triggers?" Ash murmured from my other side. "This is what I meant."

"Lilah’s having trouble, too." Wyatt ran his hand up and down my back. "I forgot about the fight scene at the end. I’m sorry."

"It’s not your fault," I whispered and shook my head.

"Please look at me, sweetness." Jayden kept his voice soft, but I heard Quartz’s rough rasp in his voice.

Peeking out from my hiding spot, I found his beautiful eyes right in front of me. He studied my face for a second, then leaned around Mason’s shoulder to kiss my cheek.

"I’m okay. I’m sorry I ruined the sleepover."

"You didn’t ruin anything," he assured me. "Lilah got scared, too. Luke and Peri took her to the kitchen to make hot chocolate."

Went to give us privacy, more like,I thought.

"When they get back, we can fast forward to the end," Ash said. "It’s happy. You’ll like it."

"Okay," I sniffed and patted Mason’s back.

Instead of putting me on my feet like I expected, he sank to his knees and settled us on the pillow nest. I laid on his chest with Jayden and Wyatt on one side and Ash and Cole on the other.

Tell them, Lark whispered. They so worried.

I didn’t want to. They’d be disgusted and kick me out.
