We all do, brother,I replied.Hang in there. The king will smash this bastard, then we can go to her.

Quartz, who still hadn't relinquished control to Jay, moved to King Julian's side and stood eye to eye with Raph. His hackles were down, and he wasn't snarling or growling, but his ears were up and his eyes locked on his target.

"Nyx doesn't like this prick's dirty mouth. What about you, Quartz?" the king crooned. "Doyoulike his dirty mouth?"

Quartz moved his head from side to side very slowly.

"Listen, Raph. It is Raph, right?" The king grabbed a fistful of hair and made Raph nod. "Oh, good. So, Raph, you're a dead wolf. You know it, I know it, and everyone in this room knows it. Iwasgoing to make it quick. You tell me what I want to know, I rip your throat out, business done. But you had to go and open your filthy mouth."

King Julian shook his head and looked over at Quartz, whose gaze hadn't wavered.

"You have to admit the cur has some heavy balls to talk aboutyourmate while he's chained up inyourcells in the heart ofyourterritory. But I'll tell you a secret, Q."

The king leaned closer to Quartz's right ear and pretended to whisper.

"He doesn't need his balls to answer my questions, now does he? Maybe you should relieve him of that burden."

With a grin, Quartz lunged.

35: Plan of Attack

The sound of our mate's giggles floated to our ears from the backyard, and the tension washed right out of us.

No sweeter sound in the world, my dudes!Ash chirped, and we all grinned at each other.

Walking around the side of the house, we saw Posy running after Tyler, her long brown hair flying everywhere.

"Come on, Tyler! It's not fair! You know I have these short dinosaur arms!"

Tyler let out a peal of laughter, and I raised my eyebrows.

I don't think I've ever seen him this happy. Wyatt sounded as amazed as I felt.

Our mate is an angel,Jay said. She makes miracles everywhere she goes.

Tyler ran a few more feet, then tucked into a little roll and flopped on the grass, pretending he tripped. Posy jumped on him and squashed him in a hug.

"Ha! Tag! You're it!"

Then she scrambled to her feet and took off, little giggles coming out in pants as she ran.

Ash, of course, hadto be involved in any physical activity and raced after her. Catching up to her in four strides, he slung one long arm around her waist and grabbed her, then swung her around and around in dizzying circles.

"Aaa-aaa-aaa-aaash!"

He put her back on her feet and giggled as she staggered around like a drunk. Making a cage of his arms, he followed her to make sure she didn't fall, and everyone laughed as she bounced between his forearms like an out-of-control bumper car.

Finally, she was able to stand on her own, and Ash hugged her, still chuckling.

"Not funny, Ash," she muttered, although she hugged him back.

"Thank you, betas. Have a good evening." Mase, the killjoy that he was, dismissed them with a nod.

"Wait. They're leaving? All ready?" Posy asked, her voice pitching high at the end.

"Aw. Is wittle wuna bunny sad her fwends are weaving?" Emerson pooched out his bottom lip, and she swatted his arm.
