"Yes, please, Ranger. And thank you."
His eyebrows flew up for a second, then he grinned before also darting out of the room.
Glad he understands thatthatis as close to an apology as he's going to get.
"Your majesty," Luke began, "the twins are still part of the Tall Pines pack. Like he did with us, I'm sure the alpha will torment them through the pack mind link. Is there anything you can do to help with that?"
There were several things I could do, and I took the time to debate each one. Finally, I nodded.
"I'll take care of it once they're conscious again."
"Thank you." Luke dipped his head.
Gisela came back in with two male orderlies, each pushing a trolley that carried an armchair, and Lilah started to wiggle around in my arms.
Put me down, please, my love.
I lowered her to her feet and kept my hands on her waist until I was sure she was steady. She and Gisela directed the orderlies to set the chairs on either side of the twins' beds, then thanked them.
"Of course, your majesty," one replied with a polite little bow.
The other one looked petrified to be in my presence. He kept glancing at me out of the corner of his eye, and Nyx took far too much pleasure in the fear pouring off of him.
Psychopath, I grumbled.
After the orderlies left, Lilah got comfortable in the chair next to Zayden, her eyes jumping from his face to Zayne's every few seconds.
On one hand, I knew she needed to be near them, but there was too much to do for me to wait around here. On the other hand, I wasn't sure we could be apart from her right now. Nyx was calm, but only in the way the eye of a hurricane is calm.
Set guards and go, he grunted.Nyx will be good.
You sure?
Nyx sure. Set guards.
"Luke, Gisela," I said, "stay here with Lilah. Contact me if either of them wake up and are coherent enough to talk. I'm going to find Ranger and talk to their doctor. I'll let you know what he says."
"Yes, sire."
"Certainly, your majesty."
I leaned down and gave Lilah a gentle kiss. She gave me a questioning look when I stood up.
"I'll be back. You sit with your cousins, darling."
"Thank you, Julian," she said with a smile.
I left the room and followed Ranger's scent until I met him coming back with a doctor.
"Your majesty." The doctor, an older shifter with graying hair, bowed at the waist. "Would you care to talk in my office?"
"Lead the way." I held out one hand in a gesture to proceed, which he did.
Ranger fell into step beside me.
"You shouldn't have promised her that," he muttered.
"What?"
