"I don't know, sire." She shook her head as her brow furrowed. "Hawk's agitated about something."

"Coal, too," said Ranger, who was driving.

"What are they doing?" I asked, curious as to what was going on.

"Coal's bouncing around like a pup."

"Same with Hawk. What about Onyx?"

"Silent as usual, but alert. Almost like he's scented prey, but not really. Hard to explain."

Ranger cut his eyes over at me.

"What do you think? It doesn't feel like danger, but should we contact the alphas?"

I thought about it for a moment. These borders were always heavily protected, and I was sure they were even more so now that the guys had found their luna. I never brought warriors from the royal pack when I visited since the Five Fangs fighters were just as qualified.

In fact, I usually never broughtanyonewith me on vacation. Official pack business, sure, but not on my much-awaited vacation. This time, I'd invited Gisela along so the five alphas could meet her. I interacted with them enough that she'd need to be on good terms with them.

"Well?" Ranger pushed in an aggravated tone.

I'd also brought along my yammering kid brother. I was planning to install him as the new alpha of Tall Pines. After I destroyed Leo Halder, of course.

And if Ranger didn't goad me into fratricide.

"There isn't much short of a full pack attack that the three of us can't handle," I said. "We're almost there, anyway."

A few minutes later, we sailed up the driveway and parked in front of the alphas' house. I got out of the vehicle and took a deep inhale of the fresh air, and Onyx smiled.

Onyx, who was cantankerous at best, smiled.

My eyebrows shot up. Sure, I wanted my wolf to be happier, but it was creepy seeing him go from snarling to smiling so quickly.

What's going on?I demanded.

I'd never liked surprises.

Jul will see.

I growled at him, making the SUV shimmy, and Gisela and Ranger jumped in alarm.

"What?" they asked at the same time.

"Onyx knows something, but won't tell me," I grouched.

"Jeez, Julian, give us a heart attack because you're pouting."

I snarled at Ranger, but he was already walking toward the front porch.

Jul!Onyx thundered suddenly.What is that smell?

I sucked in a deep breath, but didn't pick up on anything unusual. I told him there was nothing, but he wasn't having it.

Jul is dumb! Smell harder!

Chill, Nyx,I ordered him.

He didn't like it, but there was nothing he could do when I shoved him back with a burst of power.
