Jayden led me to a door at the end of the hallway. It was off-white and had small words painted right in the center of it. I moved closer and read, "Posy’s Room" in raised, gold letters.
Whirling around, I clasped my hands under my chin and stared up at him.
"This is my room? The one with a window?" I bounced on my toes.
"Oh, it has more than a window." His smile was full of secrets. "Ready?"
"Ready!" I grinned.
He reached around me and opened the door, then waved me inside. I could smell fresh paint and polishing wax and my mates. Giddy with excitement, I walked in - and all the breath left my lungs.
It was beautiful. Off-white walls, mellow hardwood floor, beige Roman shades on the windows, plural, and a set of French doors leading out to what looked to be a balcony. There was a nightstand with a lamp and a bed that looked as soft as a cloud. I beamed when I saw Mr. Nibbles sitting on the pillows as if he were waiting for me.
"I know it’s plain now," Wyatt said from behind me, "but I want you to decorate it in your style. Anything you want, I'll get for you, okay?"
I swiveled to see him holding a light blue pitcher full of huge pastel peonies. He held it out to me with a nervous smile, and my heart tripped.
"For me?" I whispered.
"Of course." He came closer and handed me the pitcher. "Anything for you, cutie."
Leaning down, I buried my face in the lush blooms and inhaled their sweet fragrance. It was lovely, but nothing compared to Wyatt’s warm vanilla scent. I looked up at him through my lashes and smiled.
"Thank you."
"You’re welcome." He reached up very slowly, like he was worried he’d scare me, and laid his palm on my cheek. "Posy, I apologize for what happened today. I have no excuse except I was too dumb to know that those girls were flirting. What can I do to earn your forgiveness?"
I went over to the nightstand and moved the lamp a bit to set the bouquet down, then ran back to him and flung my arms around his torso. He froze, and I second-guessed myself.
"Is it okay to hug you?"
"Of course it is. Feel free to throw yourself at me anytime." His husky voice was rich with laughter, which made me smile.
"You don’t have to earn anything," I said into his chest. "I’m sorry I spoiled the day for everyone and made your wolf mad and hurt you."
"Oh, my darling girl." He wrapped his arms around my head and shoulders and held me tight against him. "You did none of that.Wespoiledyourday. The boys and I came up with a plan, though, so something like that doesn’t happen again, okay?"
"Okay."
I felt something soft land on my hair again and again and knew he was kissing my head. I snuggled my face further into his chest and listened to his heartbeat.
After a moment, he loosened his hold, put his hands on my shoulders, and moved me back so he could see my face.
"Would you like to see the rest of your room?"
I grinned up at him and nodded.
He showed me the small closet that he thought I could turn into a storage area or work space for whatever hobbies I had, since I had a giant walk-in closet all to myself in our bedroom. Then he took me over to another door that led into a half bath with an adorable pedestal sink.
"Again, you can decorate it however you want. I’m a little ashamed that everything looks so plain, but this is entirely your space. I can paint the walls and ceiling any color you want. They’re still a little damp, by the way, so don’t touch them."
I laid my hand on his bicep to stop his anxious rambling.
"Wyatt, I love it. It’s perfect. Plain works for me."
"Let’s go out on the balcony. Ash and Cole want to show you their surprise."
I followed him to the French doors before I realized something. I grabbed the hem of his t-shirt, and he stopped and looked at me over his shoulder.
