"Do you want to meet Crew?" I asked. "It’s only the four of us on this link."
"Sure." Luke grinned at me. "I’ve never heard of a four-person pack before."
"It is odd," I agreed with a smile. "He’ll be dropping the groceries and other supplies off later. He’ll link you when he’s on his way."
"All right and thank you, alpha." He nudged the top of Lilah’s head with his chin. "Ladybug, do you want to say something to Alpha Carson?"
She turned her face so I could see one red, tear-stained cheek and her brown eye.
"Thank you, alpha," she hiccuped.
"It’s my pleasure. I can’t wait for you to meet my mate. You’re going to love each other. I just know it."
Her lips curled up in a hesitant smile, and I knew I was right.
"Try to get some rest," I instructed as I stood. "I’ll see you both at dinner."
"See you," Luke said.
With a wave, I let myself out of the house and headed for home, anxious to see our girl.
9: Going Shopping
Posy
I felt better about shopping after Cole told me that his little sister, Peri, was going to come along.
She was turning eighteen next week and was the only girl in the family, so the boys thought we would be a perfect fit.
As Mason served up meatball subs, I leaned over and tugged on Cole’s shirt sleeve. When he bent down, I whispered in his ear.
"Is Peri nice? Will she like me?"
His head whipped around and his eyes met mine. My cheeks burned from how close our faces suddenly were, but I held his gaze.
"Very, and you’ll like each other a lot. She’s calm and sweet and, unlike me, doesn’t have any kind of temper."
I hope she knows more about clothes and shoes than I do. Maybe she can help me figure out how to buy bras that actually fit.
I'd been wearing Mom's old ones that I'd scrounged years ago, and they were uncomfortable.
"Here you go, little flower."
Mason set a plate in front of me, and I looked at it with despair. After so much food at breakfast, my belly felt like it was going to erupt if I sent anything else into it.
The boys scarfed down three sandwiches each; I managed to choke down about a quarter of one. This time, Wyatt beat Ash to my leftovers, making Ash pout. I sensed a competition in the making and wondered if I should nip it in the bud or not.
Aw, let ’em go,Lark laughed. It fun to watch!
I offered to help clean up, but they wouldn’t let me. As Wyatt and Ash did dish duty and Cole left to pick up Peri, Mason and Jayden took me to the living room.
"We have something for you." Jayden grinned.
Mason handed me a box wrapped in navy blue paper, and I held it in both hands.
"For me?" I blinked up at them.
"Yep," Jayden said.
