Page 15 of Mates: Posy

And the rest of my wolves sent me a rush of comfort, which made me shiver for a whole different reason. I couldn’t wait to meet these wolves in the fur!

"What about Posy? What are some of her interests?" Wyatt asked.

"She no allowed to have interests. She learn to be silent. She learn to be still. She learn to survive." I dropped my head and embarrassed both of us by frantically blurting out, "We feel like we no enough. You all handsome and nice clothes, but Posy no allowed shower or food for days and day—"

Fierce snarls ripped out of all of them, and my head shot up. All of my mates’ faces were twisted with rage.

They’re going to wolf out on us!Posy warned.

I scrambled off the bed and pressed my back against the wall, then edged over to the corner, never taking my eyes off of them. A whimper slipped out, and their heads snapped to me.

All those wolf-eyed stares frightened me even more. Shaking hard, I slid to the floor and curled up to protect my head. I was too weak to fight and too slow to flee. All I could do was freeze.

The next thing I knew, a pair of hands picked me up and settled me in a lap. From the rich smell of maple syrup, it was Ash. He ignored my flinches and held me tight to his chest.

"Shh. We’re sorry," he crooned in my ear and rocked me back and forth. "We didn’t mean to scare you. Shh. You’re okay. You’re safe. We will never hurt you. Never, ever."

After a few minutes, I was calm enough to relax from my protective ball and look at him. His long, black eyelashes were wet and spiky around his dark chocolate eyes.

"I sorry." I took a risk and touched my fingertips to his cheek.

"No,youdon’t apologize. You did nothing. We weren’t prepared for how furious it would make us to hear how you’ve been mistreated."

I nodded, not really knowing what else to do.

"We’re so happy to meet you." Jayden crouched next to us, laid his hand on my head, and stroked my hair. "We’ll get you a shower and food and anything else you want as soon as you feel up to moving."

"You could be covered in mud and you’d still be beautiful. Some blood-stained clothes and messy hair can’t hide that." Wyatt’s smile was as bright as the sun as he stood over us.

Posy pushed me to make one last attempt to show them how unsuitable we were to be the mate of such handsome, powerful alphas.

"We have nothing to give you. No fortune. No power or skill or talent. Not even beauty."

"Your sweet self is all we want," Mason said. "You are the greatest treasure we could ever hope to have."

"And you are the most beautiful girl we’ve ever known," Cole added. "Inside and out. We may rule a pack, but you rule our hearts."

Myheart was going to explode from so many compliments. I ate them up, but Posy was flustered. She wasn’t used to being treated so nicely and didn’t feel worthy of any kind of admiration.

We already admire you more than you know,Garnet said. You are worth the world to us.

We will shower you with lovey words every day!Obsidian added.

Thank you, Garnet. Thank you, Obsidian, I murmured shyly.

Call me Sid, my darling,Obsidian bubbled. Everyone does.

Ash interrupted my pleasant conversation with my wolf mates.

"Lark, as much as we like talking with you, can we have Posy back, please?"

"She shy." I smiled at him. "Just a minute."

Posy, your mates want to know you, and I want to talk to my wolves. Too hard for me to talk to so many at same time. Please come out for your mates.

I felt her hesitancy, but she agreed.

"Here she is," I told the boys.
