“I’ll be back in a bit,” the nurse said and smiled on her way out the door.

“Logan, can I talk to you for a moment over here?”

Keira watched as the men stood close together.“What are they talking about?”

Layla looked down at Keira and smiled.“I’m not sure.If or when I find out, I’ll tell you.”

Keira squeezed Layla’s hand and smiled.“Can you tell me anything about what happened?”

“I’m sorry, Kiki.I can’t right now.”

“I just want to know what kind of accident?”

Layla shook her head and wiped a tear from her cheek.

Before she could ask any more questions, her eyes closed, and she released a deep sigh.She wanted to stay awake, but her eyes were so heavy.

Logan held up his hand.“Before you say anything, who’s been running the business while you’ve been here?”

“I had Cory step up.I check in every day, and so far, he’s doing a great job.I’ve also had Susan keep an eye on him, and again, so far, she’s impressed.They both deserve a wage increase.”

Logan pinched the bridge of his nose.“You’re damn right they do.”

Daniel glanced at the bed that held Keira and turned back, whispering urgently, “Logan, one of the reasons I don’t want to leave is that guy is still out there.I’m not taking a chance on him getting to her again.”

Logan was shocked.“You think that’s a possibility?”

“Anything’s possible.”

“I can watch over her if you need to take some time.”

“No, thanks.Conner has already offered to stay with her and put a guard outside the door.I told him no.I don’t want Keira to ask questions or get scared if she catches sight of one.He has one or two plainclothes cops walking around on this floor.And frankly, right now, it physically pains me to think about leaving her here, even if she’s with someone I trust.”

“I get it.I’ll head out to grab us some food.Do you need me to pick anything up at your house?”

“No, Conner is getting some things for me.He should be up here soon.”

Logan looked at him in concern.“Stop worrying.We’ll catch this guy, and she’ll get better.”

Daniel grimaced and ran a hand down his face.“I want both to happen so bad.I don’t know what I’ll do if neither happens.”

Daniel watched Logan pull Layla away from the bed, whisper a few words, and then kiss her before taking off.Daniel walked back to the girls.His heart skipped at the sight of Keira sleeping peacefully.He just hoped when she found out what really happened, she’d be able to let him help her find a measure of peace until the bastard was caught.He hoped she’d find it in herself to trust him enough to continue a relationship.
