Page 80 of Breaking Rules

“It’s a billionaire romance with a love triangle. The female main character has two love interests. One is the perfect guy, respectful and kind—who happens to be her new boss. The other is her ex from high school. Her first love, who’s also a real asshole from time to time.”

I flip through the pages. It’s just a book, and I’m far from the perfect guy, but I see parallels between this story and her life. Jake and me. Old and new. Bad and…bad, because I’m no better than Miller.

I let it happen. I let him get away with it.

I blink away the thoughts and clear my throat. “Do you know how it ends?”

“Yeah.” She nods, bottom lip caught between her teeth. “I have a bad habit of checking the ending before I finish the book.”

“And?” I arch my brows. “The good guy wins?”

She shakes her head. “No. She goes back to her ex…and he becomes the perfect guy—for her.”

Could Miller be her perfect guy? Maybe now that he realizes he really could lose her, he’ll treat her right. If he did, could he win her back?

“Xander.” The book is plucked out of my hands, and a moment later Bella’s face appears in front of me. “What’s wrong?”

“It makes me think about you and Jake.” My words come out easily, as if they were already on the tip of my tongue. “What if he tries to win you back?”

Lips trembling, she climbs into my lap and frames my face with her hands so I’m forced to meet her eye. “You know what this book and my situation have in common?”

She’s quiet for a moment, and when I don’t answer she tilts her head to the side, her hair cascading over her right shoulder.

“A choice.” She presses her forehead to mine. “And as long as I have a say in what I want to do with my life, I’m not going back to Jake. I promise.”

Closing my eyes, I inhale deeply. Her sweet, fruity scent engulfs me, and I can breathe freely again.

I don’t know what it is about her that has me so out of my mind.

I’ve always fucked around. In high school, in college, after graduation. Girls have always gravitated toward me. I never minded. Until Bella…

What the fuck am I thinking?

A storm brews in my chest, growing from a light gust to a torrential downpour.

With my arms wrapped around her, I shift so she’s on the couch and I’m on my knees in front of her. I want to give her all the power, let her do whatever she wants with me. She’s confident and bold; she just needs to see herself the way I see her.

“Use me,” I tell her. “Do whatever you want with me. Do what the girls in your books do to their men if you want.”

Bella studies me with a calm expression before she pushes me away and stands. I stay on my knees, watching her walk out of the room. She saunters to the dining table and turns a chair around before she sits and spreads her legs wide.

“Crawl to me, Xander.”

My heart skips a beat, and heat creeps up my neck. I stare at her, caught in her trap. The power she exudes rewires my brain.

Every day, she tightens her hold on the reins of her life. It’s sexy as hell. I’d do anything for her. So, I get on all fours and crawl to her.

“Take off my shorts,” she commands the moment I reach her.

When her shorts land on the floor, she shifts to the edge of the chair, her pussy in my face.

I wet my lips, dying to taste her.

“Make me come, Xander…with only your tongue.”

With a smirk, I dive in. Her sweet scent overtakes me, the taste of her enough to make me rock-hard. I suck her clit then release it. With my lips and teeth, I work her over, adding more friction, winding her up. Anytime I suck her clit into my mouth, she trembles.

“Good boy, Xander…” Bella whimpers, her eyes falling closed.
