“That’s it, baby. That’s my good girl. Come for me. Yeah, just like that…”

His voice low and intense in my ear made my body tighten, coil with anticipation and as I tightened, hemoaned in such satisfaction. A few more strokes, his body riding mine, and that shine he put on me burst like the sun over the horizon and turned me into a firebrand of lust and exquisite sensation.

I came for him, just like he wanted, just like he asked, and there was no doubt in my mind that it was more than enough to satisfy him as he came right along with me.

We lay together, after changing the sheets; me cuddled into his side, his arms around me as he played with my hair and absently kissed me on the top of my head from time to time. I closed my eyes and sighed, cuddling closer to him, feeling the grains of sand trickling through the hourglass as the time for my departure grew nearer and nearer with every second ticking by.

“What’s wrong?” he asked me, smoothing his hand over my back. I opened my eyes and rolled them up to look at him and found him peering down at me with a heat and intensity that warmed me to my toes.

“Just… just promise me that this isn’t the end,” I murmured. “Don’t let me get on that plane tomorrow thinking this is the beginning only to find out it was something dead before it even started. I… I couldn’t take it. I can’t take anymore heartache.”

“Oh, baby… no. No, no, no,” he pressed a hand to the back of my head and massaged it, his other hand going to the top of mine where it rested against his chest, clutching it to him tightly. He kissed my forehead once, twice, and said, “I’m not letting you go for long. I promise you that.”

I wanted so badly, so deeply, to believe him. He was the first person I had ever met where I felt as though my jagged pieces fit.

“I’ll make any oath you want me to make,” he murmured, and he held me as though he would never let me go and I never wanted him to.

Less than a week and I am already in so deep,I thought to myself, and I had no clue what to do with it.

The driveto the airport was a quiet one. We rode in silence in his big white Cadillac SUV, my carry-on and laptop bag in the back, our hands clasped between us as he piloted us through traffic that was nothing short of absolutelyinsane.

We were heading for the small satellite airport a couple of hours north that the cut-rate airline flew out of. It was the one near St. Petersburg outside Tampa.

“I want you to text me as soon as you get through security,” he said as signs for the airport started to show up.

“Okay,” I said faintly, my heart in my throat.

“And right before you board the flight.”

“Okay.”

“And as soon as you’re seated on the plane.”

I started to smile. “Okay.”

“And the very second you land,” he said smiling.

I couldn’t help but giggle as I said, “Okay.”

“I’m going to miss you,” he said, and he raised the back of my hand to my lips as he watched the road.

I fought back tears, my voice starting to crack as I said, “I’m going to miss you, too.”

“Hey, none of that, baby. You’re a strong woman. This ain’t nothing compared to everything you’ve been through. You’ve got this, okay?” He shook my hand back and forth a bit and I nodded without looking not trusting myself.

“I’ve got this,” I repeated, as much to somehow convince myself it was true.

I tried not to break when he stopped at the curb to drop me off. He gave my hand a reassuring squeeze, and with a lingering look opened his door to get out. I opened mine and met him around back of the SUV to get my bags. He opened his arms before he opened the hatch, and I gritted my teeth as my eyes misted and I practically dove into them.

We held onto each other tightly, and everything suddenly just felt so surreal. Like none of it was really happening.

He leaned back and palmed the side of my face gently but firmly and made sure my eyes met his when he said, “I’ll see you soon, baby. I promise. Not gonna leave you.”

I nodded, mute, not trusting my voice and he kissed me fiercely before stepping back too soon and letting me go to open the back of the Escalade. He pulled down my carry-on and extended the handle then held out my laptop bag for me to duck into the strap and settle it onto my shoulder.
