“Don’t be a jerk,” Waverly muttered with a glare at my cousin. “She’s a single mom with two kids, a jerk for an ex, and no job.”
“So much for privilege,” I mumbled beneath my breath.
Waverly rolled her eyes. “None of it is confidential information. I learned all of that about her while getting my hair done at the salon in town. My stylist is her next-door neighbor.”
I flashed her an apologetic smile for ever doubting her, especially when I knew how much people liked to gossip. “Sorry, my little queen. I should’ve known better.”
Jude glanced over his shoulder at Eloise. “I could use some help around the office if she needs a job.”
Finn’s gaze remained locked on the single mom as she rounded the front of her car to climb into the driver’s seat. “I probably have some work she could do at the clinic.”
“Maybe she can help with the foster kittens so you don’t take the lazy way out and bring them all to my wife.”
Ignoring my suggestion, Finn cast a pleading look at Waverly. “Speaking of foster kittens, do you think you could take one? Wiggles is the cutest little orange tabby. He won’t be any trouble at all.”
“Sure, bring him over. Gracie can use the company while we’re in the office.”
My wife’s easy agreement ended up how I expected, with us being the proud owners of another cat. Those extra cuddles helped ease the sting of disappointment when Waverly ended up not being pregnant. This was actually for the best because it allowed me extra time to enjoy my new wife before we started building our family.
