He nods once but doesn’t say anything else. Instead, he looks at my cut, his body tense because I don’t touch the leather, instead, I pick up the baby carrier and walk out with the kids, happy that I get to spend some time with them.
I don’t bother going to my truck as I walk out the door. I bypass it and walk down the street to the light-yellow sign right at the end, my heart pounding.
“Okay, bud, there’s this woman I really like. Are you going to help me out?” I ask Levi as we approach the bakery door. He nods with a grin, and I chuckle as I push the door open my back, my hands full.
A whole week since I snapped at the girl, a week since I felt this pull to be around her always, but I kept my distance. I knew I fucked up, and even though I apologized, she still turned me down when I asked her out on a date and then walked away without looking back, so I need backup.
As soon as we locked eyes, I knew she was mine, and I knew she felt something, too. I just have to convince her. She obviously likes kids by the way she looks at her little brother, who looks just like her, so why not use my little nephew and niece?
“Okay, bud, let’s do this,” I mutter as we walk into the bakery.
A few tables are filled with people. The man that she said was her father is sitting at the table near the counter, just like last time with the little boy but my main focus is the woman currently placing cakes into the case. A few strands of her brown hair frame her face, and the pull ignites.
The waitress behind the counter bites her lip, seeing me, and unbuttons four buttons, showcasing her cleavage, and I roll my eyes.
Women flanked me when I wore my cut, but when I had the kids, it was like I had a big red flashing light above me.
They’re chick magnets, and normally, I’d walk away, not willing to use them to get pussy, but right now, I need all the help I can get.
The woman is guarded, and it’s not lost on me that her father is here again with the boy and no mother in sight.
“Hi, what can I get you?” the woman says sultrily when I get near the counter. She chews on her long dark red nails to try to look sexy, but I ignore her and look at Esmerelda, who has yet to look up.
“Cupcakes!” Levi demands loudly, making the waitress scowl at him and I try not to tense as the beauty finally looks up, hearing Levi’s voice, proving she does indeed like kids. I grin wide at the look Esmerelda is giving my nephew while Hannah murmurs in her car seat, starting to fuss.
Her eyes soften seeing Levi’s stern face before she looks at me, and she freezes, which only makes me grin wider as our eyes lock and everything around me vanishes, this girl my sole focus, which is really fucking bad considering I have two kids with me.
Her big brown eyes are wide, her ruby red lips parted a little, a few freckles on her nose and my heart skips a beat. Fuck me, she’s even more beautiful than I remembered.
Chapter 8
Esmerelda
MyheartfluttersasI lock eyes with the deep green ones I have thought about all week, and yes, my breathing picks up a little as I eye his black T-shirt stretching over his chest showcasing his muscles that I would love to just… Crap no, no, no.
“Have dinner with me?”
I blink, break eye contact, and focus on the little boy in his arms who originally got my attention with his cuteness demanding a cupcake instead, trying to get my heart rate down and my dirty mind under control.
I declined Damian’s dinner offer. My life revolves around my dad and brother right now, and with dad wanting me to take this place over, I can’t have any distractions, though everything in me wanted to accept, something I didn’t think would happen, something that I regret daily not doing especially since I opened my big mouth and stupidly spoke to my dad about him, who then spoke to Cody. Both berated me for turning Damian down and have been on my back ever since. He is always on my mind causing butterflies to erupt several times a day with just the thought of him and now that he’s standing before me, my whole body feels like it’s lit up.
Damian…
Okay, I’m scared, I’m woman enough to admit that. I have never had this feeling with Cody or Mark, and it’s scary.
“Cupcake,” the little boy says again, and I grin as he eyes my counter full of goodies that I know will send him on a sugar rush.
He doesn’t look like Damian, but he is absolutely adorable with his brown hair and green eyes, not Damian’s kind of dark intense green, but still green.
Is he his father?
Is he still with his mother?
No, he can’t be, he asked me out unless he’s a cheater, but then he wouldn’t bring them here knowing I work here, right?
A little murmur echoes from behind the counter, gaining my attention from the cute little boy and I look over the counter and lock eyes with beautiful blue ones. A little girl, no older than a month old, looks at me, a little pink bow clipped in her small amount of red hair.
Oh my, she is gorgeous!
