He pops the cork and fills the glasses. My eyes connect with his as he lifts his glass in the air.

We clink them.

“Cheers,” he says, winking at me.

“What are we drinking to?”

“Our last days together,” he says, his voice and eyes unreadable.

My lips remain glued to the rim of my glass, an aroma of citrus peel and dried fruit rolling over my tongue.
